Title: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: RB on October 23, 2009, 07:34:00 AM Every year i get the little ants when we get too much rain, or the temp is dropping. for the past year i have used cheap store bought Honey and Borax. I mix a 1:1 solution of honey and Borax and put little drops(about half the size of a dime) out in their path and let them eat it up.
Ants are gone in about a two days. Just thought i would share. RB Title: Re: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: somegirl on October 23, 2009, 07:40:02 AM I usually just put out powdered boric acid in their path, it always works well. Interesting idea to combine it with honey. [thumbsup]

RB I used a different method a month ago, but if those little F'ers come back I'll definitely use this. Thanks RB!!! Title: Re: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: RB on October 23, 2009, 11:14:39 AM maybe i should have prefaced this thread with....safe for indoor use.
The quick-kill method is great, but i am interested in killing the the ones in the nest also since they will bring back the honey borax mix to feed the colony. Title: Re: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: Slide Panda on October 23, 2009, 11:23:54 AM I figured that - but when you've got a kitchen counter full of them.. time for a quick kill. Also seems to do a decent job of killing their scent trail. When they were coming in my house, it was right up my stoop, under the front door. I worked backward from where they were scavenging, out the door down my stoop, spraying the whole while. With that done, it seemed to ruin their trail and they haven't come back. I didn't take any steps like the borax+honey to get stuff into the nest... so in my case, all credits due to soap... who knew
Title: Re: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: tango59 on October 23, 2009, 03:29:03 PM Windex for the inside ants and for the outside......pour gasoline down the anthill (lots actually) set the lawnchair on the driveway, arm yourself with the waterhose and from a looong way away, throw a lit rag. Watch all the little ant campfires. Really cool !!! All the neighbors came to watch too.

Ask me how I know... ;D [evil] Title: Re: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: NAKID on October 23, 2009, 04:10:59 PM ^^ Hahahahahaha
Title: Re: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: RB on October 23, 2009, 05:30:19 PM On the gasoline and brakleen lines.
I once had a yellow jacket nest in my grandmothers clothes line pole. So I took a can of wd40 and a lighter to it. I didn't realize tat it would flash the wings off those suckers. Once they hitthe ground they were pissed, go figure. I was dancing around the yard like a fool trying to get them off my shoes before they got to my bare legs. That ony took me once to learn. Title: Re: I have ants...homemade solution Post by: Porsche Monkey on October 24, 2009, 04:05:48 AM We had a real bad drought this year. The fire ants found any way they could to make it into the house. They were after the water in the shower and also would visit the wife and I while we slept. I went around the whole inside of the house and sealed. Every crack I could find. The ant mound was under the houses concrete foundation so we couldn't find it. Spread amdro all over the yard and they were done.
