Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: rendler on October 26, 2009, 03:03:51 PM I guess I won't be getting a digital gear indicator. Was told by my dealer the S2R1000 doesn't have the transmission for it.

They typically pick up info from the tachometer lead. It's a process of going through each gear to the shift point, while it's on a stand. Sketchy. Why not just count gears in your head as your shifting. Then... when you try to shift into 7th (like I always do :-\ ) you know your in 6th.

Can't you just pick up the RPM and Speedo signal, and calculate the gear ratio from those? Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: corey on October 27, 2009, 11:42:57 AM Isn't that what the motogadget unit does? yup. no mechanical lines/cables... figures it all out based on electronic signals from tacho and speedo. pretty slick. not slick enough for $225... i'll just count, thanks. Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: junior varsity on October 27, 2009, 12:05:23 PM I can't think of how many times I've tried to shift to 7th though. Sure would be nice. I think its built into the fuel motogadget gauges.
Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: corey on October 27, 2009, 12:14:03 PM i would rather splurge on the motogadget mini with a trick bracket right above a nice dropped headlight. but then i'd have to get my immobilizer deactivated... which would lead to a DP reflash.... which would lead pods.... which would lead to a dyno tune & PC3.... which would lead to... well, an empty wallet. ;D

Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: turbowagon on October 31, 2009, 06:56:23 PM I have ordered one by pzracing, probably won't be able to tell you how well it work until next year when weather gets warmer tho :)

I hardly ever look at the tach, or the speedo for that matter. Typically just ride at a speed that want get me killed or noticed. I keep the motors revs at a point where I am just coming into the meat of the torque curve so that at the twist of the wrist I'm off.... this will also have some immediate decompression braking if I find myself having to slow down. Generally about 3500-4000 rpm on the monster. Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: Fergus on November 16, 2009, 05:35:36 PM Why do you need/want one? Sometimes for me, different road conditions affect my perception of speed (flat/straight vs. twisty). In certain cases, I may be riding by feel and be a bit surprised when I try to shift-up, based on feel, to find that I was already in 6th. Then I figure out I was going a bit fast :-\. I guess looking at the speedo would cure that and a gear indicator wouldn't help... Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: turbowagon on November 16, 2009, 06:08:50 PM I occasionally take the monster to the track and with the gear indicator it just gives a little assurance to be in the optimal gear.
Normally I keep track of my current gear pretty good but sometime after I get held by the slow traffic it messes up my reading. With the gear indicator I can downshift at higher rpm more confidently without worry about locking up the rear. Why do you need/want one? Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: tcam33 on November 17, 2009, 11:30:09 AM Healtech also has one. I have one installed on my 696 it works great! http://www.healtech-electronics.com/ (http://www.healtech-electronics.com/)

Generally about 3500-4000 rpm on the monster. Hey dude that's D-U-C-A-T-I! Add another 2000 revs to your equation and you'll be riding too! If you want to tool around at 3500 ride the hog. Title: Re: Digital Gear Indicator for S2R1000 Post by: moto on November 17, 2009, 07:43:40 PM Protune makes a digital gear indicator that includes a rev limiter light.
