Title: switchin pipes ... Post by: s4tunate on October 24, 2009, 01:56:16 PM Hey,
Was thinking of switching my High mount termis back for my stock pipes (just to try that setup out) and I understand there is some dependency with the air intake - but is this a matter of performance only, or could I cause damage by not having harmony between intake / outlet? cheers B Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: mattyvas on October 24, 2009, 03:17:06 PM Is it something about the High Mounts or is it the loud factor that makes you want to go back to stock pipes.
Depending on ECU fitted and if anything has been done to the airbox you should be able to go between pipes without too much hassle. Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: s4tunate on October 24, 2009, 04:17:22 PM Hey matty,
dont get me wrong i love the termis, just that the bike came with the stocks and wanted to trial them for looks / sound / performance - curiosity really. I dont know what ECU / air box I have. it says "exhaust kit" on the paperwork. Raining now so not going happen till next week. Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: mattyvas on October 24, 2009, 07:06:52 PM Low pipes do look better on DSS Monsters IMO.
The lack of noise may not impress though. Have fun doing the change. Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: bazz20 on October 24, 2009, 08:53:34 PM just core the standard one

i dont think high mount pipes will look good on my bike, so i have chosen to look for low mount pipes... I love the look of termi pipes, but a bit pricey staintune look ok but abit to shiny... arrows, cant find any for sale in oz... MIVV bit pricey too... what are some other brands to look for? Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: mattyvas on October 27, 2009, 02:14:36 AM What's your budget, cause MIVV are some of the best priced pipes on the market.
Had'em on my 620 and still hear them on an M800 [evil] Where are you shopping here or US market. Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: goldFiSh on October 27, 2009, 02:47:26 AM I'd check these out - classic look of the reverse meg conti replicas at a great price

im having a hard time finding someone who stocks them... i have been looking for second hand pipes as the look of the bike now will not be staying... Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: goldFiSh on October 27, 2009, 04:18:44 AM have you tried PJ's parts in the US for the mivvs, that's where mattyvas got the ones that are now on my bike..

I've ordered a Quat D Exbox for mine from the US...pricing is good with the strong aussie $$. They are a bit of a different look (probably not for everyone), but Im not keen on looking at large mufflers on the back of a bike. http://www.e-securedsite.com/motowheels/ITALIAN/index.cfm (http://www.e-securedsite.com/motowheels/ITALIAN/index.cfm) Title: Re: switchin pipes ... Post by: Shoggy on October 27, 2009, 02:32:51 PM Hi Guys,
Am also in similar boat looking at pipe options, if you only replace the stock mufflers do you still need to mess around with the ECU and airbox? Coring the originals looks like the cheapest option though am a bit concerned about stuffing them up if it goes badly. The stock pipes on the S2R actually look pretty neat. Ciao. Close up fit and finish needs help but with some tlc, they are he best looking slip ons Ive seen.

Ciao. most get away with replacing the stock pipes, so long as you don't open up the airbox and let it breath better - if you do both, you'll definately need a power commander or a DP ECU or similar. If you want to go down this path, i strong recommend having a browse at Brad Blacks excelent performance notes - it gives very detailed notes on what differing performance offerings may provide, and even better, he's a DMF and Oz Monster member (being a Melb based fella) http://www.bikeboy.org/performance.html (http://www.bikeboy.org/performance.html) |
