Title: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on May 26, 2008, 03:15:24 AM alright Vics, let's get it together!
Dosverde and I spent Sunday checking out the country side...and think we should plan something for this Saturday. Dos has done the hard yards and started the plan... starting at Ringwood, Smoking Joe's opposite Ringwood Lake? is the where we met last time Ita? Going through Yarra Glen, Healesville, Alexandra, Yea, Flowerdale, Broadford, Whittlsea, Kinglake, Yarra Glen. See my google map link below. Whaddayareckon? All suggestions will be happily accepted Wink Then I will post to see if who else would like to join us. http://maps.google.com.au/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=-37.483577,145.417786&spn=1.070138,2.559814&z=9&msid=117461682711568247388.00044dd00501b6f271293 Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on May 26, 2008, 03:20:21 AM now, we could it round the other way....some things to think about:
Black spur has a lowered speed limit of 80 kph as of this Thursday, the police will be out in force around the area, doesn't effect me - I think I pushed 65 kph last weekend - but you blokes that can actually ride, well, it could be smart to avoid the area? also....Kinglake down to St Andrews - let's just say I can do it faster on my pushy! It was not fun coming down that bad boy! All Melbourne riders welcome of course! Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on May 26, 2008, 04:02:39 AM Slight change of plan, I think we are looking at: Ringwood, Yarra Glen, Healesville, Alexandra, Yea, Trawool, Tallarook, Broadford, Strath Creek, Flowerdale, Kinglake West, Kinglake, St. Andrews, Panton Hill, Christmas Hills, Yarra Glen... Is that Google map working, should see a blue line marking out the route, I can't see it now though. And 'cos it was so freaking cold doing the Black Spur at 8:00am yesterday, shall we say 9:00am meeting for a coffee? Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on May 26, 2008, 12:39:54 PM Smoking Joe's does coffee? and 2nd breakfast ? I'll get there at 8:30....
the ride out to Ringwood was good at 7 last Sunday....it was the Lilydale to Healesville that was COLD ! Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Super T.I.B on May 26, 2008, 01:17:57 PM Well done fella's. 'Bout time some other states pulled their finger out of their bums. [thumbsup]

guys - it's looking like it's 9 degrees to 18 degrees - nice - Dos that is a 50% increase from last weekend mate! we can still do an early start! Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: madalf71 on May 27, 2008, 05:03:38 AM Howdy Peoples.
Kinglake-St.Andrews Errrrrr no thanks , I like to keep my rims round! My 2cents worth here, for those that would like a little shorter ride, Yarra Glenn, Healsville(Coffee),Healsville racecourse road to Toolangi, Kinglake, Kinglake West, Whittlesea Pub Lunch, and then split. And....how about a Lake Mountain run in the warmer weather??? Roads are soooo smoooth. Cheers. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on May 27, 2008, 08:22:54 PM Howdy Peoples. Howdy, It's been a while since I done this road, has it gotten that bad?Kinglake-St.Andrews Errrrrr no thanks , I like to keep my rims round! My 2cents worth here, for those that would like a little shorter ride, So does that mean you are coming along Madalf71?Yarra Glenn, Healsville(Coffee),Healsville racecourse road to Toolangi, Kinglake, Kinglake West, Whittlesea Pub Lunch, and then split. And....how about a Lake Mountain run in the warmer weather??? Roads are soooo smoooth. Absolutly, bring it on :PCheers. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on May 27, 2008, 09:10:55 PM up the reefton spur and then up to lake mountain - I completely agree - and I even have a fantastic bicycle story for you guys at the top (About a Swedish bloke who learnt what it really means to be an aussie mate).
Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: madalf71 on May 28, 2008, 04:44:19 AM Well as long as things don't turn to Kaos as per normal I should be along.
However I might meet ya's at Yarra Glenn, as I'll be coming from the Northern Subs, Greensborough Hurstbridge. St Andrews Rd., first it started to break up, then they tared and stoned it, then the locals turned nasty and started putting oil on the corners. Cheers. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: ducmeister on May 29, 2008, 01:35:18 AM Sounds like a top idea!! Unfortunately I'm fully booked. We're taking an out-of-towner to the Healesville Sanctuary.
Can I make a suggestion though? How about heading from Kinglake across the Melba Hwy to Toolangi, then down the Chum Creek road and turn off just before Healesville toward Yarra Glen. The Chum Creek Road is great fun although you would be heading down the hill instead of up. Just a thought. have a good one. [thumbsup] Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on May 29, 2008, 10:25:35 PM Anyone else coming?
So far it's me, Spider and possibly MadAlf. I think we should give more notice for the next ride and put a vote on a date that suits more people [moto] [moto] [moto] [moto] [moto] I'm asking because we may change the meeting place to Yarra Glen at 9:30. Cheers, Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on May 31, 2008, 12:00:08 AM Well I enjoyed the 1st Melbourne ride! the Buxton to Alexandra was foggy and bloody cold - but this is what keeps us tough. Great route by Brendan.
Riding companions were excellent - no whinging, just good riding examples - thanks to Dos Verde and Madalf. 300km on the dot when I pulled into the drive way, so that wasn't bad. next weekend (with decent weather!) I'm going to hit Mt Dandenong, sassafras, emerald, through to Koo-wee-rup then along the south gippsland hwy to Leongatha then down to the tip of the prom! Everyone is welcome! should the Vics come up with another ride and another date - but this time further out so you can plan better? Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: ptooey on May 31, 2008, 12:24:31 AM Was great weather for a ride today..
Pity I couldn't meet and get to know you fellas by face/name, I haven't had a ride since crashing last month.. But picking up my new brand spankers next week. woo. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on May 31, 2008, 03:22:50 AM Yep, nice ride today today, thanks guys [thumbsup] I've never actually ridden in fog like that before, I have the feeling back in my fingers now. Is that classed as an icicle ride?
Now that I've got the most out of the rear tyre, I have a new one going on tomorrow. I'ts a pity the belts started to show though, it's still got some meat left on the edges ;D Hey P2e, what bike are you picking up next week? Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: mattyvas on May 31, 2008, 03:32:44 AM Hey guys glad you had a good day.
Got any snaps of those who turned up? We had 13 then 10 then 9 to finish. No fog for most of us and pretty warm considering it's officially winter tomorrow. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on May 31, 2008, 04:13:36 AM MadAlf took a couple of pics of the 3 bikes that turned up, so hopefully he'll get them up soon. We bumped into another 2 S4R's out the front of the bakery in Healsville, should have got a photo then.
Sorry, no pics of us. We were a bit shy today, plus the lighting wasn't quite right..... Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: ptooey on May 31, 2008, 07:32:47 AM Hey P2e, what bike are you picking up next week? Picking meself up a full Termied HM-S... sorry to spoil the monsteristas about us, but I just couldn't get over the looks of these babies. Dunno bout the practicality, but we'll see how it goes. [cheeky] Of course, 2nd choice woulda been an S4R, but am a bit tired of owning the 'old style' wheels after having owned them on a MTS, and also finding the looks of a monster a bit dated (mind you I still prefer the classic looks of monster Mk.I over the Mk.II: 696)... Besides I already got a chance to own a M620 in the past and loved it. If budget permitted I woulda been even more stoked bout grabbing a 2nd-hand S4RS, but when the requirement is inclusion of aurgasmic Termis well the cost analysis of new vs 2nd just goes out the window... I still can't get over how cheap some S4Rs are going for at the moment... what's with the sudden depreciation? Don't say 696 cos that don't make sense. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Betty on May 31, 2008, 03:22:42 PM I still can't get over how cheap some S4Rs are going for at the moment... what's with the sudden depreciation? Don't say 696 cos that don't make sense. I'd have to go with 1098. I think that is where all the S4RS riders are going (no proof mind you). I have a mate looking for a S2R 1000 and there are NONE around so seems limited to those water cooled thingies. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: mattyvas on June 01, 2008, 04:46:41 AM My 2c's on the S4RS price is that although a beast to ride, grunt, noise with pipes and tuning.
There range is limiting, when out on the weekend the two riders on S4R(S) were concerned about fuel stops. Where as the "normal" range of a monster isn't great giving somewhere between 200-240 depending on riding style. A hard ridden SR4(s) can sometime be looking for fuel at 140..... That's not a long time between drinks. Maybe it's not a real reason to sell or for the sudden price drop but it's something to think about. There is one up here at Flywheels, they are looking for around 19K it has 12-13 thou on the clock I think and a set of Zards with other goodies. And it's only an 06 model, guy traded it for a ZX10 Kwaka. Could it really be a reason? Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: madalf71 on June 02, 2008, 12:45:34 AM Hello Guy.
Excuse the delay getting the photo up, had to suss out the hosting issue. Anyway, a great ride 270klm round trip for me. Met up with Spider and Dos at Yarra Glenn. I now why they call him Spider and checked out Dos' shortie...exhaust that is! Melba to Toolangi, down hill way on Chumb Creek Rd, Morning stop at Healsville. Then off to Yea via Alexandra....minus a few degC, and vis after Buxton. Pitstop for bikes and owners at Alex.....brrrrrrr. Spider informed us below 8 DegC. Defrosted at Maralades in Yea, highly reccomend the huge pies and sausage rolls. Do forget to say "Hi" to the cat. Home via the usual path, Flowerdale, Kinglake, etc. Bikes ran perfect, Donations to the Dos rear tyre fund most welcome. that header and pipes of mine have to get ceramic coated - tarnish is SO 1990's ! and thanks for waiting boys :) Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: bazz20 on June 02, 2008, 01:06:55 AM [clap] yay 2 valves rule [moto]
Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on June 02, 2008, 01:24:34 AM [clap] yay 2 valves rule [moto] nothing wrong with a 4 valve either - just cause it looks like your engine made love with a refridgerator ! ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: bazz20 on June 02, 2008, 02:47:16 AM nothing wrong with a 4 valve either - just cause it looks like your engine made love with a refridgerator ! [laugh] [laugh]i heard there was a plumbing shotage in italy when they released ths s4r [cheeky] [moto];D ;D ;D Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on June 02, 2008, 03:02:48 AM Snap up the cheap S4R's guys, they are going to be collectors pieces one day. You'll be able to say It's the last of the f-f-f-f four valvers... - unfortunatley by then I'll be running it on spud juice :P
At least if P2e comes along on the next ride on his HyperMotard, the S4R won't be the 1st one sniffing out petrol stations .... or will it ??? Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Big T on June 02, 2008, 03:15:47 AM Hey DosVerde I take it the Titanium S4R is yours?????
First one I have seem out and about other than mine........... Post more pics please to see the beast..... [moto] PS: Yep I'm with on the fuel stop thingy....... Sucks...... 160km down hill with a tail wind and looking for gas..... Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on June 02, 2008, 03:26:57 AM Big....Dos has taken extreme steps to lighten his bike - he has absolutely nothing left on his rear tyre!
the white radial belts where showing through 10km from home, I was shocked! I'm always up for a stop anyway so riding with the 4s ain't a big deal....who wants to sit on the thing for 300km anyway...sure would be nice for not every stop to be a servo...but no biggie. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on June 02, 2008, 02:12:18 PM Hey DosVerde I take it the Titanium S4R is yours????? Yep, she's all mine. I've put nearly 5000 kays on it in the 4 months since I picked her up. I got it ex-demo so just hit 10,000km. I also commute a couple of days a week. It took a while to get used to tootling through the traffic on it, and commuting causes the fuel light comes on at 90km :o I posted a pic up on TOB but I'll have to borrow the wife's camera and find a nice place to take some better pics. I'm glad my tyre tickled your fancy Spider, I got a new one fitted Sunday, so i'm ready to go again [moto] BTW, for all you Melbourne guy's Andrew McIntire's shop is open untill 2:00pm Sunday's and 8:00pm Weeknights. He took care when replacing the tyre, not a scratch on the rim. He's in Nicholson Street Brunswick. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: ptooey on June 02, 2008, 03:35:54 PM At least if P2e comes along on the next ride on his HyperMotard, the S4R won't be the 1st one sniffing out petrol stations .... or will it ??? Fingers crossed I can do better than Big T's 160 clicks. (Geezus, I hope that's an average range right, not max range?) I been told by the salesman the HM should make 200kays average, but that may just be his marketing schpeel. Not sure at this stage if I can make that since I'm getting the full termi kit installed. So, if I ride with an S4R, it'll be a relief for me-- I won't be the one feeling guilty declaring the fuel stops.. ;D Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: mattyvas on June 02, 2008, 05:49:28 PM I think 160k's is about max, unless of course you roll downhill.
Haven't seen any of the S4R guys up here going beyond that... Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Big T on June 02, 2008, 10:02:44 PM Hey ptooey very interested to see your new HyperM and how it goes.....
If I was to get another Duke it would be a HyperM... Took one for a test ride and dam it was a fun ride...... Yeah I'm interested to know myself... HM isn't ideal for my use as a daily rider. But choosing the HM has always been more of a heart decision than a head decision. If it was head, then I'd have picked a Jap bike... I shudder to think... :-X Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Ita on June 03, 2008, 03:54:01 PM It took a while to get used to tootling through the traffic on it, and commuting causes the fuel light comes on at 90km :o Yikes..... Brendan, I get double that and 240 - 260 on the highway!!!! Take it out to Dean at Dynoverks and get a PCIII and custom map!!! It must be as rich as... That's assuming the T tank is the same size as the D tank and you are filling it up. Mine takes a tad under 12ltrs when the light comes on!! From the reviews I have read, the HM is not great on the range front either. Obviously a 14T compounds the problem - from my experience it added about 500rpm for a given speed. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: DosVerde on June 04, 2008, 04:37:19 AM Yikes..... Brendan, I get double that and 240 - 260 on the highway!!!! Mine takes a tad under 12ltrs when the light comes on!! Ita I have been able to get 225km out of it with 1 litre left in the tank (took 12) out on the open road. When commuting and the light comes on, I duck into a server about 5km later and get 10 litres into it, so it's about on par with a gently driven Falcon [bang] I'm still running standard gearing. It doesn't like working through traffic under 4000rpm, she even burps through the intake on occasion. I assume its running rich at that point, fine with a few revs on. A DP ECU or Power Commander will probably fix that. I know yours doesn't run rich Ita, with all the air being sucked in causing that brutal induction roar, your bike has it must be lean as [cheeky] Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Big T on June 04, 2008, 04:52:49 AM On the Sydney ride last weekend Tricolore and I with the same Testastretta engine were getting different fuel mileage.
Tricolore with the standard ECU, exhaust and 15 tooth front sprocket..... Big T with full open Zard system (no baffles), DP ECU, Open Air Box and 14 tooth front sprocket...... Tricolore was putting in about a litre less than me over 130km ish.... [roll] Agree that the Testastretta engines are thirsty little buggers...... OK maybe a typo?? 12 with 1 left?? I got a 15ltr tank. Does the T have a smaller tank than the D?? As for the induction roar... I love it for about an hour, and then it's headache city or earplugs!!! ;D My fuel consumption was crap untill the Corse Kit, which improved it, but the PCIII cleaned up all the low end stutters, farts and surges!! Who's organising the next ride??? [evil] Ita Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: ducmeister on June 04, 2008, 06:18:45 AM Who's organising the next ride??? [evil] Yeah, good question. That means I've still got 1/3rd of a tank left when the light comes on - thants going to change things. I could probably get 130km on a commute then and about 240 on the open road. Cool [thumbsup] I can't make it this Saturday, having a "boy's afternoon" at the footy ;D Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: ptooey on June 04, 2008, 02:13:30 PM Yeah, good question. OK, I guess it was a big ask just a few days out from a long weekend. Enjoy and I'll try to catch up with you all soon. Cheers. Title: Re: [Melb] Sat 31st May ride Post by: Spider on June 08, 2008, 12:48:03 AM A damn good Victorian ride:
Started in Malvern, out to Fern Tree gully, the plan was to go into the basin and do the climb up to Sassafras but the fog was heavy so it was cold, wet and foggy...I decided to just motor down to Belgrave then into Emerald and Gembrook. All great roads and great views. across to Pakenham and down to Koo Wee Rup. Lang lang then onto the South Gippsland Highway - which despite being a highway is actually enjoyable - long sweaping corners and the bike just settles in and purrs underneath you at 'slightly' above legal speeds. After a brief stop to say hello to mum then it's onto Korumburra and Leongatha comes a right hand at Meeniyan which is the beginning of a fantastic 150km run down Wilsons Promontory and return. Return was the same except instead of turning at Koo-wee-rup and turning into the mountainous I take a left and cross Pearcedale and pop in to visit a friend for afternoon tea at Frankston...back along the esplanade and home to Malvern. Hopped off the bike, tachometer read 540km for the day. The 1000ds did around 20km to the litre - so about 240 to 260 per tank. She's a bloody fantastic thing and like any good woman really appreciated being taken out and shown the sights. A good day and highly recommended to other Victorians. The South Gippsland Hwy and the Wilson's Prom routes are definetly worthy of 'great rides of Victoria'.
