I'd say there's a heck of a difference between a track star doing it ON the track and some Bozo doing it in a parking lot.
How do you know he's a bozo?
I don't - I was just trying to make a stark contrast in my description.
Was it you?
Nice bike!
[cheeky]
If it's in a closed parking lot and out of the way then I say awesome. Good for him.
If it's on some street in front of a school, in traffic, in the general public then I say stupid.
Based on the background, I'd say the former.

The answer to your question is "yes."
There are few, few truly awesome things that aren't also insanely stupid.
I'd say, awesomely stupid !
Dolph :)
no one likes wheelies here?
No, we don't. Wheelies are irresponsible and dangerous. We expect--nay, DEMAND!!!--more respectful and measured riding from Ducati owners. After all, we're not stunter riff-raff.

So.... maybe stupidly awesome? I say at least it's being ridden. The coolest thing you can do to your Duc is ride it like you stole it. Wheelie away stranger with far more financial security than I. [thumbsup]

I'm going to take a guess and say that the car rear ended him and spun him around. That might explain why the damage all appears to be on the right side while the bike is on the wrong side of the lane facing a car with damage and shows no damage to the front fender (apart from the side that hit the ground).
I bet the guy who hit him (if he did rear end the bike) had a heart attack when he learned how much that bike cost!!!
RE the original pic.
that got posted on my locals forum. i do like the fact that he's doing it with that bike
my original comment:
Quotei think it's funny.
there is also a part of me that hopes he dropped it and had to pay out the ass to repair it.

Last Page is not known for its up-to-the-minute breaking news. After all, this is print. We went to press while George Bush was still in office. The first George Bush. But once in a while we get a sizzling story that simply has to be fast-tracked into the magazine post-haste. And so it is with this oven-fresh bulletin from our esteemed European Correspondent, Alan Cathcart. Sir Al takes up the story...
"It was an expensive lunch. Rather than walk up the road or hop in a car to grab a bite for himself and his mates at the Ducati factory in Bologna, one of the workers there jumped on a bike to go pick up a margherita grande with extra cheese. Not just any bike, either-but a Desmosedici RR, one of the $72,500, 990cc MotoGP race replicas, not best known for having acres of space on which to secure a pizza box.
"The car he front-ended wasn't too badly damaged, but the Desmo definitely came off second best when it was decked on its side, quite apart from being covered with melted mozzarella cheese-look closely, and you can see the strands dripping to the ground."
Talk about a pizza with everything...it's enough to make you lose your appetite!
NO, please, it can't be the riders fault, it just can't, it's alway the person in the car, right?
Make the voices go away!

Well no duh! So after a few retarded attempts at wheelie play, he ruined the clutch on a $72,000 motorcycle.

D16 wheely = awesome.
I would be more bothered by someone riding it around like a grandma holding up traffic and such.

Hey I'm getting lonely, can you send those back? You said you were just gonna borrow them for the weekend.
Wheelies are way fun... Even more so when they are out of the corner, crossed up, and power, vs 12o'clock and balance point...
What do you do about wheelies when the bike you are riding will power wheelie in 4th, and in 5th with the slightest hint of a bump in the road? You wheelie the hell out of it! I almost ran off the track at Buttonwillow in the top of 5th because I didnt get the front end down! Not gonns shut 'er down until the brake marker baby!
D16 or not, its just a motorbike, and it should be beat on!
Hell, one of the big problems with the D16 is that guys dont ride them hard enough, and they carbon load the pistons and then you get valve to head issues... Beat on the thing!
But I guess if you cant wheelie..... ;)
You wouldn't do Paris if you're getting PAID to do it?
I say [bow_down]

You hit the nail on the head. I think the people who are most vocal against wheelies are the ones who can't do them.

Alternatively, they just don't approve--reasonably so, I might add--that a person with the taste to buy a Ducati would treat a work of art so irresponsibly and so boorishly. Harumph.

My 5yo wheelied his TTR50 over backwards this summer. He takes after his old man. [moto]
Awesome...and why would it be anything other than?
Who cares if it's a 70K+ bike, it could be a bigwheel for all I care, and it's still awesome.

I get more out of seeing how far I can push it in the corners than to stand it up on one.
Not to say i haven't brought the front up, just not what makes me quiver.
