Title: 696 Rear wheel removal?
Post by: jakem696 on October 26, 2009, 03:34:58 PM
Anybody have a step by step procedure on how to remove the rear wheel on a Monster 696?

Thanks in advance.

Remove brake caliper
Raise rear wheel
remove left side axle nut
loosen chain
push wheel forward and remove chain
remove axle while supporting wheel

Installation is reverse of removal

Axle nut torque 83 Nm. Grease,  adjuster screw 8Nm.
Chain slack is in your manual.  Too loose is better than tight.

Did I forget anything?

Thanks Howie.  That sounds simple enough for me to tackle.

I don't know if the 696 uses the same spacers as all of the other older Ducatis with two-sided swingarms.  However, if they're the same, don't forget that the spacer on the left side goes flat-side against the swingarm.  Unfortunately it looks like it would work the other way and many, many Ducati owners have put it in backwards damaging swingarms and causing other problems.

Here's the little bugger:
