Title: New pony in my stable. Post by: eichh on October 28, 2009, 01:41:25 PM Well it took years but I finally found something I would trade my 51 Olds for. Its a Santee Softtail with 3" stretch with a 34 degree rake. The motor is a S&S 113 ci. dynoed at 122 hp and 115 ft. lbs. of torque. It rides like a log and handles terrible but it makes me smile every time I ride it. I am new to riding this type of bike and I do have one question if anyone is familiar with choppers. The dude just went bar hopping on it and it has a flat spot on the rear 200mm tire and it has big ass chicken strips still. My question is, I was on an on ramp doing about 70 and just started to scrape the pegs and the rear end felt like it was swaying back and forth a bit. Could that be due to riding on the edge of the flat spot where it meets the normal part? Or could it be from riding hard on an unscuffed part of the tire? They are Avon tires hopefully not the same people who make lipstick and makeup. I love pushing the bike but perhaps im not supposed to, what do you think?

Look at how much longer it is than your Monster - that will take some getting used to!!! Last year I test road a cruiser for fun at the IMF show and man was that weird for me - foot goes where? Clutch is where again?? It was like learning about riding all over again!! After a few minutes I got a feel for it and was ok, but it was a totally different beast. Have fun! Pushing it through corners is like taking a Hummer to the race track. It's just not designed for that, you will continue grinding hard parts and if you grind them hard enough you'll low side when the hard parts take the weight to far off the tires. Slow down in the corners and enjoy the stop light action.

Post by: RetroSBK on October 31, 2009, 03:24:22 PM Pretty much just a traight of the soft tail frame.. they wiggle and wobble, and its better to have a hard compound tire on... if you have any sort of grip, it ties itself in knots...

Post by: eichh on November 01, 2009, 02:27:07 AM It does look better without the bags but I ride it to work, its nice having bags when I ride the Duc I need to sling a duffel bag across my back. Honestly the bike when ridden with some self control is not much louder than the Duc with Termis on it. I can hear the Duc pretty good through earplugs and my helmet and the exhaust is behind me the chopper dumps out the side and isn't much louder with the plugs in and helmet on it just has more bass (unless your ham fisted and have to run wide open from stop light to stop light) in that case yes it is ignorant. I am working on making a set of baffles to slip in like these I have the stainless mesh I just need to figure out the snp ring retaining setup. I love bikes of all shapes and sizes hopefully I can do a cafe racer in the next few years.
