Title: 01 m900 being a #UPDATE
Post by: brix821 on October 30, 2009, 05:22:48 PM
hello all techies. OK Hook me up.  My M900 has been acting up for a few weeks and now sits dead.  At first the bike would run a little rough until the bike was warm, and would often stall.   Now the bike will not start at all, I have a feeling that the issue is the fuel filter.  On thursday afternoon, I started my bike and it was running like it was out of gas, even though the odometer was only showing 60 miles since my last fill up. ( gas light has acted up for  a year or so, i started using the trip meter to gage my gas mileage. I put 2 gallons in the tank,  I pulled the battery( 2 years old) and charged it, and checked/ cleaned all battery and or starter connections.... still nothing.  Jump starting or push starting have not helped.  Can you help me?

Changing the filter isn't all that hard, although it will suck with a full tank.

I'd siphon out the fuel and change the filter...

time to bag up. ;D

If you pull the return line, you get direct access to the fuel supply so you'd be able to drain it easily.

Change the fuel filter.  Sounds like your problem to me.

Mm yeah, sounds starved for fuel. Any auto parts store should have a cheap manual pump that'll tel you drain the tank pretty quickly. Easier than pulling the line.

temp sensor?
I think a bike with a fuel filter that's shut won't run when it's warm
You can pull the fuel line from the tank and put another piece of fuel hose  on it
Then switch the ignition on and when there is no gas the filter is not working
When the gas is poring out you don't take the filter out

Might also check for pinched or kinked fuel lines.

Also check for a split fuel line from the pump.  Had that problem on mine.

Reach in, and pull the fuel pump out of the 'clip'.

I got the clip and installed the new filter. Is there a trick to getting the fuel filler cap to sit flush with the tank?

A light coating of grease on the O-ring.

Grease ans SD said and some coaxing. I tapped mine back in with a rubber faced dead-blow hammer - tapping lightly while moving around the circle.  tap-tap-tap... Should just take a couple laps of that to get it seated.

No, it'll sit a bit above - like so:

Did you replace the original, or just trying to re seat it? The manual says to replace it every time you remove that bit...

It's too bad you had to stay home last year when we rolled in to pit stop at your restaurant last year.

Bring some more sexy back (and shamelessly show off my photo work)

The manual lies... ;D

That o-ring can be re-used several times.

I have a bung that I use for coating tanks that's been in and out a couple of hundred times with the same o-ring.

If the gasket pops off while you're tightening the screws the bung was not seated all the way in.

I've found that just pushing down on the bung works to seat it.

It may be 'rebounding' a bit if you're hammering on it.

the 900 is still not starting. The PC seems to be working still.  Looks like I will tow it my friends shop and see what we can find. Where would be some good starting points.  My other option is taking her to my local shop who charges 1 hour labor for a diagnostic..plus they are cool. Thanks for all your help so far.

the filter was fine. the plugs were carbon fouled and the wires were pretty much shot.  I noticed from a search that yuu (pun intended) have have the ole oil leak on the sidestand.  I cleaned her up, and have never noticed a significant drop in oil level...but that is next on my list.

Ah.. no spark.

I've got an oil leak? No leaks from the side stand.. I DID have a leak from where the alternator cover meets the main case, right by the clutch slave.
