Title: chrome care?
Post by: pitbull on October 31, 2009, 04:34:03 AM
My 2001 m900 cromo tank is showing it's age and the years of me not being careful with tank bags, jacket zippers and such. It has many small scratches on it, especially right in front of the seat. None of them are deep scratches, but If anyone has a suggestion I'd really appreciate it.

Several companies make polishing wheels and compounds for chrome, but be careful. Chrome is very thin and it can be buffed through to the underlying nickel or copper.

Back when car bumpers were chrome instead of color cordinated plastic, I used Dupont #7 chrome polish. It worked very well. However that was so long ago I have no idea if it is still made. You might also try white polishing compound. Available at WallyWorld for about 2 bucks.

When in doubt polish by hand. Might take longer, but run less risk of buffing through

try polishing it with "Blue Magic" by hand with a chamois cloth.

worst case, re dip it and have DP fix the hinge while you're at it  ;)
