Hi All,
Just started riding, been a 250 Rebel for the past few weeks to start out on, recently bought a 696 and rode it for the first time yesterday, NICE. Can't wait to get up to speed. Would like to take some private lessons if anyone has a recommendation I'd appreciate it! Looking forward to chatting and meeting some of you! Thanks!
If you're female I'm sure plenty of members will offer you private lessons [laugh]

I'm Capt'n underpants..... and I approve this message
Nope. I'm the other kind of the species. Why don't we start a school with female instructors in bikinies? Think how many more riders there'll be!
They already have that in Florida....... they'll even sell you a hot dog on the side of the highway [laugh]
More reasons to leave the People's Republic of CA, and move to FL!
Congrats on your new monster [thumbsup] Since you are in West LA you should check out IBN II at Rick's Tavern on Main in Santa Monica.
As far as private lessons you can probably find some body to show you around the canyons but you should really check into an official school. It is probably one of the best things you can do as a new rider whether it is Class, Lee Parks or California Superbike School you will definitely improve from MSF.

I took the RideRite BRC. It was fun and well worth the $$. It's a two day class and can be completed in one weekend.

I took the RideRite class first thing. Honestly, wasn't impressed. Too easy, and only got the basics. I can see going from my Rebel to the 696 is not going to be seamless, and I'd like to find a mentor/coach to help me along.
I'd be interested in the places MetalDuc mentioned. Rick's sounds great BTW! What's IBN II?
Thanks guys!!

Where you get to meet Luca. 8)
Luca?! Isn't he sleeping with the fishes?
So every Wednesday night? OK, look for the dorky guy with black hair and glasses, asking how do you work that thing?!
The only way to improve is to ride. Use the stuff you learned in the class, counter steering, braking, look through turns (look where you want to go not at the car you don't want to hit), keep those elbows bent and no white knuckle grip on the bars. Get out to some twisty roads when you can and in a few months do one of the "performance" schools. Don't ride outside of your comfort zone on the street/canyons either.
When you meet Luca, don't stare at his mustache. It has mysterious powers! [laugh]
Congrats on the new scooter and be safe.
PS Luca is good people. Just don't date him or be his roommate.
All sound advice, thanks! Especially on Luca. Any twisty roads near the west side that you'd recommend?
just head up PCH to Malibu....
Latigo.....
Las Flores.....Stunt...Piuma...
search the board, theres a few posts from members regarding good roads/routes to take...
Or just ask around tonight..
... I'll be on this bike tonight:(http://i401.photobucket.com/albums/pp94/lawbr8ker1/MyRedhead.jpg)
If you were local I would be more than willing to take you riding up the Canyons with me. [moto] You will find someone here sooner or later by your neck of the woods. But a little advice, wear the proper gear.

big fat +1
go tip-toe around the canyons some. take it easy, have fun. then get to a track school asap.
Sorry I missed you guys last night, will definitely make there another Wednesday night.
Thanks ICON, I'm pretty geared-up, I look like a walking Dainese billboard. If you change your mind, and let me meet you somewhere for a ride, let me know. If anyone else wouldn't mind babysitting a little, I'd be very grateful!!
Greetings Fish! Welcome to the pahrty pahl!
I'm off on Friday afternoons so if you are too, I'd be happy to show you around the neighborhood, canyon wise.
I'm old and slow, but have been driving and riding all of the local roads since the early 70s.
Cheers!
Rob

I like this place already!!!
Made it to Malibu today! Took the 10 (first time on the freeway) to PCH, to Stunt Cyn, to the top of Mulhulland Hwy. I'm hooked! Can't wait to do it again!
I'd like to post a pic. Can someone tell me how?

You need to use a photo host like photobucket.com.
Got that. I'm putting the address between the two "URL" markers. No workie!

That be Azusa your looking at there. Not sure if you've ever been. If your intrested I'll post up a ride once the weather warms up a bit. It's going to be in the low 60's on Saturday.
What kind of riding are you looking to do with your new Duc? Starbucks, Canyons, commuting to work?
Ride safe!
I live in West LA, so that's a ways away. That would be a long ride just to get there. Not out of the question, but might be a while.
I have a 6 mile (no freeway) commute, so a ride to work now and then. The Canyons were great, love to do that some more! I prefer Coffe Bean to Starbucks ;)
THANK YOU!!
Philip

Have you been to ACH?
Not familiar with ACH?
yes, still closed.
Fishie- ACH = Angeles Crest Highway. A fantastic canyon road near Glendale with a lot of idiots on it. :p Burned up in the last major set of fires.

Pretty much sums up the Monicas as well. Took the afternoon off and rode up to Mulholland, Stunt, Piuma, Decker, Encinal. So nice when there is nobody else on the road. The Snake past the Rock Store had miles and miles of rubber laid down...apparently some actor type had his new toy out on Tuesday doing burn-outs and power slides, and left most of his tire tread on the road.

A burned up stretch full of idiots?! That's for me! Let's go!! ;D
What I saw on Monday couldn't have been prettier!!
