Hope everyone is doing well. After riding my Monster (696) for the past few months. I've ran into some issues with it and can't think if its issues with the bike or is it just me doing something wrong. Well one thing I've noticed is a small trail of what seems to be oil right over my clutch (this part is def. and issue with the bike). I can't see the source but it seems to be coming somewhere underneath the battery or so. Another thing I'm noticing is that my fuel lights comes on approx a 100 miles after the tank has been completely filled. I'm not sure if the light is sensitive or what. Thirdly, sometimes when I give the engine a small rev (usually in neutral or rolling with the clutch pulled in) instead of the revs going up. I hear a loud click sound and the engine turns off for a split second, but it resumes function immediately after the loud click. And finally, today it was 60 degrees outside and the bike did not turn over for a good 5-6 minutes of repeated attempts. In the past, the bike has turned over fine in temperatures below 60. Anyone have any inputs before I take it into the dealership? Thanks.
P.S, the rear brake squeaks a lot...is that normal?? lol..
is there any reason not to take it to the dealership?

Brakes have a bad scar on one of the pads which is what is causing the squeaking when I took the stock set off of my gf's 696, and replaced the rear with EBC HH pads.
As for the starting issue, how many miles are on the bike?
Are you setting the fast idle lever to full on before you start cranking the bike?

I've got a feeling something in your throttle is out of adjustment.
As for the oily stuff... cant' be sure based on yoru info.. eitehr way... dealer.
I just had some issues with my 1100 2 weekends ago and my ride was cut short and I went and dropped it off at the dealer. Its a hassle. Its a pain finding a ride. It will make you more confident in your bike that it is in good shape and won't leave you stranded. Just go take the time and do it. You will be a million times happier when you aren't cursing at your bike. I loved that 696.
Hey guys thanks for the input. The bike's def going to be dropped off first thing when I get back home. As far as the bike, it has about 3k miles on it. I bought it as a demo model w/ 1100 miles on it.
2009 monster 696 - rear brake squeal drove me nuts - also brake was so 'soft' as to be almost ineffective. Dealer commented that the squeal is common and recommended Ferodo Platinum Series #FDB2074P brake pads.
A three minute replacement job. Torque caliper mounting bolts to 25nm - 18.44 ft lbs. I used 'blue' Loctite on mounting bolts.
Now rarly a noise and much improved braking. Anther mechanic mentioned that the Ferode 'sintered' pads are even better for braking but create more wear on rotor for high mileage users.

+1. Ferodo pads on the rear of my 800 are way better than the stockers ever were.

Yea I left the service tech a message yesterday about new Brake pads, as the ones I have on right now aren't the greatest and feel really weak (esp in the rear).
Well, here's the diagnosis for the bike so far:
The oil leak came from an oil cover which is fixed, and the "hiccup" that I was complain about was from a bad throttle body. So it is in the process of being replaced, most likely it's all being covered under warranty. This is new to me, but they said that they need to send an email to Ducati stating the issues, and they will reply back saying whether its covered under warranty or not. But oh well, as long as it gets fixed and nothing out of pocket for me. Oh btw, there's a TSB out for the 09 Monster 696s. Nothing major, just a lose wire that needs to be tightened.
I was supposed to get my bike back today, but they are having some trouble getting a reading from the bike's computer. They said that they plugged a computer into the bike to see if everything is running fine. But they could not get a reading, and everything said "0" for all of the sensors and what not. They contacted Ducati, who were in return very stumped and confused. So now the dealership had to take pictures of the readings and fill out a bunch of paper work that they had sent Ducati...now the bike probably won't be ready till Tuesday...faantaastic. This bike is getting to be a real pain. /rant
To really love a Ducati you've got to embrace the full Italian lifestyle, including the lax attitude towards schedules.
Seriously, it'll be back soon and it looks like they're finding some issues. Hopefully you get these fixed under warranty for no charge to you and you'll be riding again soon enough. Ducatis do seem to need a little more TLC than the average Japanese bike but when you get to twist the throttle it makes it all worth it.

Lol, thanks Scott. But no I hear you, it's just annoying and stuff. Just found out today that the two sensors that cannot be read are for emissions...lol. I was speaking with the Tech, and he actually had said that they're not even important and makes the bike run more lean. But on the bright side of life, the dealership offered me to drop the bike off from NJ to New York free of charge. Which is a nice gesture on their part. But I just can't wait.
