Ok I know there is a lot out on the forum about this, but I am having the same issue with my 695 engine paint discoloring and flaking. I started to try to clean the engine with some WD-40 and it helped a little. But I tried using some carb cleaner and it removed some of the paint off the engine. Is this a big issue that the paint is off that area? It is an 07 695 and it is out of warranty as of May 09. Would it be something that Ducati would still cover this since it is such a big problem? Or is it something that they only cover will it is under the 2 year warranty?
Mostly I am worried about the fact that I took some of the paint of the engine.
If anyone has any imput that would be great! Thanks!!
So here is a little update on my paint problem. Dropped my bike off at my local Ducati shop (Crooked River) and they are taking pictures of the damage and sending them to D.N.A. From what the tech said to me was that the paint damage on my engine is probably the worse they have seen. So they said that it should be a problem for Ducati to take care of the paint.
Also once they are done they said they will deliver the bike back to me on DNA's dime. So that is really cool.
I didn't get a chance to take picture before I dropped it off, I will see if the shop can send me a copy of the pics they send to DNA, so then I can post some before and after pics when I get it back.
take some pics of your own. The shop wont mind. Post before and after pics if you can [thumbsup]
I wish I could...I already dropped it off at the shop and forgot to take pics...
So here is an update...
My local shop sent pictures and a request in for this service to be done. They got a notification back stating that it had been declined because I am out of my warranty.
Called customer service and asked if there was a way that I could have this taken care of even though it was out of warranty, the guy said nope. I asked if there was someone else I could talk to and he said nope. I asked what will happen to my engine now that the paint is cracking and coming off. He responded with, "ummm....I don't know". I then asked who could I talk to that might know, he responded with, "ummm....I don't know". He then said, call your local service department for technical issues like this. I said they refered me to customer service. I asked there is no one at Ducati that could tell me what is going to happen to my engine? He said, "Ummm...I don't know".
So I called my service department back and they gave me a person's name to contact at Ducati N.A. So I left him a message and now am waiting for a return call.
I just love talking to customer service and getting "Ummmm....I don't know." Makes me feel all warm and IZ_ inside.
I can't believe that he could refer me to someone else, or say let me check...no just "ummm....I don't know"
I love Ducati motorcycles and I wouldn't own anything else, but this makes me really sad that they wouldn't take care of this. I mean I know it is out of warranty but it isn't like there is something broke and it is something that is from normal wear or something like that.
I mean this is an issue with that model year...it happened on all models of monsters that year, that is what I was told by my local service/dealer.
If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!
So I will update when I talk to the person from Ducati
So here is an update...
Ducati NA called my local shop and offered a compromise. [cheeky]
What they offered was that they are willing to pay for the heads to be sent to a company in Texas to have them media blasted and re-coated. They also wanted my local shop to eat the labor costs for this. My local shop said they couldn't eat the labor cost, which is fine. I am o.k. with paying the labor costs for this work to be done. My shop has offered to come to my house and pick up the bike and then bring it back once the work is complete, since I live about 50 miles from the shop.
Thanks Ducati for stepping up to the plate and offering to help in this situation! [clap] [clap]
Since now I have the bike back I will be taking some pictures and putting them up for a before and after.
Will update when this work is completed.
