Installed, and I'm getting a lot of blow back, in the base gasket area. Mechanic says it's common with these, nothing in the manual or presale material stating this could happen. How to I solve this? Is it just something to deal with now?
Base gasket area? I'm not exactly sure where you're talking about.
Is your filter element on a hose, or right on the breather valve?
yes, breather valve. But is causing small oil puddles around the base gasket area. I've already had the notorious gasket issue repaired 2 months ago. Took to my mechanic, says it's from the breather, you can see it's oil drenched. Said he's seen and heard alot about this with these K&N type breather kits. I just have to watch my oil levels closely now. He said maybe try running the oil at the low mark to see if it elevates the issue some.
I'm using that TPO right on the valve, and not having that issue. Early on, I did have some oil off the filter..
If you're getting enough oil to make puddles, I might clean it up and put the stock breather back on for a while. Doing so, you can prove or disprove that using the filter right on the breather valve is the source for your oil issues.
it sure appears to be the source, the filter is covered in oil, all in that one area. But will reinstall the OEM setup to see what happens
Do you still have the reed valve in the breather? Or is it working correctly? Oil around the base gaskets can be caused when this part is faulty or missing.
I'll have to pull it and verify. All I did was remove the hosing, install the K&N kit.

Are we talking about the gasket between the breather and the case? I have a wide open breather and have no oil leak issues.
the oil breather kit, from TPO, uses a K&N filter, you remove stock hosing. Mine is covered in oil, and I have small oil puddles where the base gasket area is. Only place I can see it's coming from. I'll take a pic at lunch.

Did you use too much oil in the filter?

Now that may be possible.
