Stop the presses - it looks like Dodge is going to try and fix a major error in judgement and release the Charger as it should have been - here's a sneak peak that we released today:

If this looks at all familiar, it's because its undeniably:

oh yeah! [thumbsup]
All of these new muscle car remakes are starting to have the same shape these days, ala jap 600's.
Maybe so, but I like them!
Am I the only one who sees a 4-door Corvette from this angle?
Do you have a front view of the concept car?

Picture no workie
The styling doesn't do much for me, as I remember the Charger as a two-door.
I also have doubts on this thing making it to production.
As Chrysler is trying to survive, it needs to focus on higher volume mainstream vehicles (i.e., something to compete with Camry and Accord) not a niche vehicle like this that has a short lifespan.

eww...I don't like that
like the back though
that thing is seriously UGLY. its like every bad american car stuck together.. but mostly it looks like a facelift on a 97 intrepid.
they seem to be digging the grave one ugly concept car that will be rushed into production so no one will buy it at a time.
come on dodge, make a car people want and can afford, not a car that will appear on magazines for a month or two then never sell.
looks good from the back , not so much from the front
reworked stratus?
as a big dodge enthusiast, this thing looks like crap.. they should make a car that can last long, have good power, good on gas.. and is cheap to fix...
oh wait, they stopped making the srt4 neon.. lol.. (of course biased, if you leave it stock, damn thing will last 200k miles as a member has allready..) i get 33 mpg in my beast.. too bad people think it's ugly..
any specs on this 2012 charger?
yea your right, it does look more intrepid..
If I read correctly, that concept was from '99...
intrepid, stratus, a little neon & the last front drive charger. It's got every bit of ugly they've done in the last 20yrs. The current Charger isn't that bad. It has some style. This concept is ugly. [puke]
But it's a Dodge. What do you expect?

i hope thye bring back hte trans am. i really liked the 4th gen ones.

Looks like it got beaten with an ugly stick. Scratch that, it looks like the ugly stick was beaten with it.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here.
I live on a military base. Every. Other. Car. Is either a Charger or a 300. There are literally dozens of them here. The current iteration is selling very well.
Though I do have to agree with you about the styling.
They just need to tone down those intake things on the doors, make it a 2 door, and square up the front some.
Hey I was suprised as you who all realized that this was a late 90's concept, but many people felt like this was the direction that the design of the Charger should have gone even if it was 4 door. The current charger pays no tribute to the history of its lineage, and (personally) I was totally disappointed with it - it was really anticlimactic for me as I was a big fan of the 68/69 Chargers. Even something like this would have been better than what's currently out there:
The new one is sort of like a dodge challenger but not quite.

4 door charger is just wrong. Dodge earned a FAIL on that one.

I'll ask you to back that "selling very well" claim with actual sales data.
Camry and Accord each account for 3-400K sales in the US each year.
I doubt that Charger and 300 even come close to that.Just looked up the registration data for the vehicles in question.
This is year to date through August 2009 and does not include fleet sales to rental car companies, etc.
Toyota Camry - 189,746
Honda Accord - 189,678
Dodge Charger - 24,223
Chrysler 300 - 18,924
Also, in Chrysler's business plan unveiled yesterday, it stated that an 'all-new' Charger was coming in 2010. Although no pictures were provided.

The change in the front end of the '70 Charger was awful IMO. I'd prefer a 69 Charger since I like the split grill better.
I agree about the 4 door "fail" but in modern times I've grown to accept that companies have to market to families ect. I mean, just look at the trend:

So, are they s l o w l y going retro on it? Now the 12 has the hood indentations, like a 68-70.
Lose two doors and then call it a Charger.
I never cared much for the Charger, but the Challenger is another story. Dodge got this right.

I think that was only for the first year.
My major issue with it, the Charger and really just about any other car these days is that they're all getting too damn heavy. Drop 600 lbs off any of them and then it's be game on.
Airbags
mandatory power steering
mandatory climate control

1LE Camaro
Mustang Cobra R
and even those had some of the comforts listed above...

It's a sad thing, I need no comforts.
I might have to go stripping out unnecessary items out of cars I buy again. Hard to bring myself to do it with a new car though. :P
At least my Mazda 3 has manual windows, manual seats, no sat or nav or many of the other common bells and whistles.
Been many a time I've looked at that back seat and thought about stripping it, the carpet and sound deadening out. Not worth it now, probably getting rid out it by the end of the summer.

Actually the whole front clip is different.
Look at the new model and you'll see the fenders and hood extend another four inches.
Dodge has stood by the Ram front end on all models as it's signature for quite some time now.

It does look a little meaner from the front...and it does seem to be a "refresh", the base price looks to be $25,000 from what I could find.
I'd still like to see it as a 2 door coupe. I miss those long doors!! LOL [cheeky]

I don't trust the automotive press anymore. AT ALL. I went and test drove a 2011 hyundia sonota (wife wants a 4 door sedan), due to all the stellar reviews....yeah....it felt like the cheapest car ever....for $26k. On top of that, they're always giving VW shite for being unreliable. between my brother and I, we own 4 VWs and have never had an issue with any of them (well, with 3 of them...my 65 beetle is in about 400 pieces right now [laugh])
