It's come up before in insurance threads that USAA is a private company only open to current military or their dependents. A while back they opened it up to past military but that only covered back to 1996. Now if you have ever served you can join. Since it's been discussed several times I thought I'd post up. If you don't know USAA is consistently rated #1 for customer service over all other insurance companies. My Hyper is $25 a month full coverage with $0 deductible. My total monthly bill is about $180 for homeowners insurance on a 600K house, 1M of liability insurance, and full coverage on the Hyper, an 09 Ram Sport, and an 09 335I. I know they quit offering moto insurance in some states but they still offer it in CA. Oh, and they send me about 10% of my premium back every year in December. I also bank with them ,deposit checks over the net and pay $0 for the account and $0 for ATM charges. In other words, if you can sign up with them you probably will never leave them.

An enthusiastic +1 from me. I have used them for car insurance since I have been able to drive, and I have used them as my primary bank for about 10 years. The cheap insurance and yearly dividends are nice, but it is a good organization to deal with in general.
They are great. I have home owners, renters, and auto through them. Unfortunately, in CT, they don't offer powersport (MC, Boat, etc). They handle that through Progressive's USAA division.
+1 on great customer service from usaa. i had them for 6 years. however, great customer service didnt keep me from switching to progressive to cut my premiums IN HALF! [thumbsup]

I'd love to cut mine in half. $12 a month would be great.
i love USAA. i have never had a problem with them until i went to insure the triumph and got sent to progressive who wanted more for my bike per month than i pay for 2 bikes, renters, and my g/fs car(she has a bad record too)
coverage levels were comprable, but the triumph is a literbike so i guess that means i get to be raped on insurance [roll]
it took a few phone calls to learn that they dont' insure motorcycles anymore, but will continue to insure anything you had a policy on last year when they stopped writing new policies
hbliam, thanks for posting this, I didn't know anything about it 'til now. I'm gonna check it out.

Depending on your State of residence.

really? they told me they weren't underwriting any more motorcycles.
that sucks.
300/yr is a lot for insurance.
My S4r is well under that.
But again, depends on state, insurance company, how many policies you have, etc.
I've been insured with USAA since high school. For that matter, we do all our banking and vehicle financing with them. Great rates and great service. I crashed my 620 and they covered not only the repairs but also replaced all my damaged gear. My wife totaled her 696 (15mph lowside - I'm SURE it could have been repaired economically, but the adjuster disagreed). They've always been pleasant and professional to deal with.
They were certainly writing new policies on motorcycles in June of this year, 'cause we bought and insured 2 696's then. Perhaps the fact that we had a 620 and a Vespa on our policy made a difference, but I suspect it's more of a geographic thing.
Now that I think about it, I never actually got around to joining USAA myself when I was in the reserve - I was covered by USAA-CIC (their civilian insurance company for dependents at the time) through my dad, and since college have used my wife's dependent membership since she had a job when I was in school. I should probably get a "real" membership since I don't think we can get our son covered with our current one.
It's very good insurance and financial services. One might quite possibly beat their rates or their service. It's very unlikely that one could beat both.

I pay more than 300/yr for the bike. Location makes a BIG difference...

i'm in kind of the same boat. been insured since i started driving through my dad's policy then got my own at 19.
i have 2 bikes currently insured through them, but i guess PA's insurance laws stopped usaa from insuring me for bike #3 :(

Well lets see. 100/220K Injury, 100K Property, 100/200K uninsured motorist, $0 deductible, Orange County, California. I know there are alot of variables but I doubt any company would insure me for less with comparable coverage.
