Today i had to attend a training in Baltimore city, downtown, so i figured i would ride my bike. I went to five garages, all of which said motorcycles prohibited....really? I asked every time. No one could give me a reason, although i have a good idea why....but still....WTF. Are we not suppose to be promoting fuel economy? Of course i could park on the street but not all day. I ended up ten blocks parking at my friends business.
I am seriously pissed about this...these are private businesses i will be boycotting..a-holes!

Any other cities been doing this?

Quite the opposite in Brisbane, Australia.  The city recently rolled out dozens of new free bike parking slots throughout the CBD.

Why wouldn't a garage allow motorcycles if you're paying the same rate as a car?  ???

Good question.  I've seen the same "No Motorcycles" sign in my parking deck where I park for work.  I presume it's for liability reasons?  Oddly enough though, when I've ridden to work, they've waved me thru. 

That does suck.  I don't know about garages specially in Cincinnati but they have included motorcycle specific parking in a number of places including my office in the last 2 years.  Funny thing about that is that they did this in response to the big increase in scooters when gas was higher.  Have I seen many scooters since the gas prices came down?  Nope.....

MrI discovered at one point that the short-term parking garage at SFO doesn't allow motos either. >:(

If I'm going someplace new I usually either try to look up info, ask on our local board, or call the garage ahead of time. :-\

There's a whole swanky highrise living/shop district in downtown Atlanta called Atlantic station who have banned all motorcycles from their premises, it's really f-ing insane and it sucks much worse if a motorcycle is your only mode of transportation ;)

There used to be several spots at the harbor saved for bikes, but that entire parking area along Light Street is gone, cars too.

The Mercy garages allow bikes, but unless you get it validated at Mercy it's over 20 bucks. 

We have a big enough group around here, RB, (not just DMF) let's spend some time this off season trying to get some changes locally.  We could use a winter project.

I like that idea, this was actually already on my mind...our city is ass-backwards sometimes.

How about this... here in Victoria, BC you can't even park two bikes in one metered spot or they'll ticket one of them!  The city recently started converting some spots to mini parking spots, but that was only because those teeny Smart cars are so popular here. 

Back in the Washington, DC area I used to park on the sidewalk from time to time, if it was a wide one, and never got a ticket for that.

Were they privatly run lots or city run? I see a lot/ most of the private ones in dc and Arlington w the no moto signs. But I also see motos parked in them....

I asked one time and I got a response about liability - though the guy I asked was far from in charge.

At the other end of the spectrum - many of the metered lots in Silver Spring have dedicated, free moto spots.

So it seems to me that some of the issue is public lots vs private. Any notion for that on those lots you scoped RB?

most of chicago is like this too which makes no sense since Daley wants to be the "greenest" city in the country.

then i just started parking on the sidewalk or taking the train up since they will ticket you on the sidewalk too.

Yea that is BS. They said they don't allow bikes anymore because dudes were doing burnouts and wheelies in the streets. They DO NOT have no bike parking signs where the buildings are though, just in the deck.

I have run into a mix in DC.  Oddly in downtown, in the evenings at least, I have been waved in to private parking garages twice without having to pay.  Otherwise I make a spot on the street or park on the sidewalk.

The two lots in downtown Silver Spring (municipal) are now free.  They put magnetic sensors in recently that won't issue a ticket or raise the gate unless you are a car.  So if you pull up, the attendant just lets you in.  The problem with that is you have to get the attendant to let you out or rush out behind a car before the gate closes.  I don't think they were meant to be free.  In fact I remember a couple of years ago Montgomery county put meters on all their moto spots that used to be free.

Huh... the two municipal lots on East West near down town (By NOAA) hae free bike spots. And on a little further up on Georgia had free spots a couple years back. We moved office, so I haven't check there recently

I'm talking about the two "new" lots right in the revamped area.  I haven't parked in those other lots in a long time.  Perhaps the law change was a bad rumor......
