Title: Threaded boss on forward cylinder
Post by: orangelion03 on November 10, 2009, 08:50:53 AM
Spotted this threaded boss on the front cylinder (located between exhaust flange and oil line in image), both sides.  What is the purpose of this?  Vestigial from older frames?

I am wondering if it can be used to attach a support for the bike when working on the front end.  I'm looking for a way to support the bike when I remove the front forks.  Thinking that I can fabricate a simple steel support that would attach to this spot and share the weight with the swing-arm stand.  Alternatively, I could pass a tube through the gap and support the ends on jack stands. Would this stress the cylinder too much?

Thoughts?

That boss is for a fairing support, used on SS's.

The jackstand/tube approach works fine.
