Title: test rides today -- Ducati vs Triumph
Post by: M900 on November 11, 2009, 05:51:22 PM
Rode a Speedmaster and a Hypermotard today.

Two very different motorcycles, both with their strengths and weaknesses and comparing them directly was quite interesting.

Head to head;

1.  The Ducati steers well, very nimble, but manageable and still relaxed...

The Speedmaster has a comfortable seat.

2.  The seat configuration on the Hyper is interesting -- it was really easy to slide back on it and tuck in, decreasing the wind drag and opening up the highways...

The Speedmaster has a comfortabe seat.

3.  The HM has great brakes -- strong but very responsive.

The Speedmaster has a comfortabe seat.

4.  Great engine on the Hyper -- smooth and torquey.

The Speedmaster has a comfortabe seat.

I can't...  It's 600 lbs.  The Hyper is around 400 lbs I think...

I have 3 kids... Divorce would be too s'pensive.  Either way, all is good.  Taking delivery of the Speedmaster   [evil] today.

Divorce is only expensive 'cause it's worth it.

you know, you could get some work doen to the seat of the HM. that would make it nice and comfy.

of course, i still wouldn't want to ride it more than a few undred miles at a shot, so no real trips on it, but that's not the point.  ;D

FWIW rode a Thruxton and a Monster on the same day a few monrhs ago after being bikeless for several years (but had many in the past)....liked the Thruxton well enough  but it didn't really excite me while the Monster definitely did...for me the Ducati has an edge the modern Triumph lacked and it is still there after the newness has worn off

i rode a Thruxton back when I was first looking my first bike because I liked the look of it. Then I felt how heavy it was.
didn't do anything for me.

the hm was just too much motorcycle for the $$ to pass up.

note the monster sulking in the background.  the dealer threw in  a rejet for the monster, so i'mm cutting the pipes and riding it over next week.
