Yes, I actually had to go down to city hall and file a lawsuit over a cat.
I bought a purebred Highland Lynx cat back in August. The breeder and I agreed on $300 with breeding rights.
Pick the kitten up in early September, and the breeder doesn't have the registration papers, but she says she'll mail them to me when they come in.
waiting. . .
Email her,
waiting. . .
Fianlly get a letter from her in October, but it's not registration papers, it's some crazy contract she wants me to sign stating that if I abuse the cat, or let it outside, or ever breed it to an unregistered (stray) cat, she can confiscate my cat without any questions.
Yeah, right, that'll happen.
SO I ignore it. She emails me two weeks later, asking if I got her contract. I tell her that I won't sign it, and I want my registration papers.
She goes certifiable, calls me all kind of ignorant etc. and tells me she won't let me have breeding rights (All this via emails.)
Final straw was when she emails that she won't release registration papers until I show her a vet certificate that the cat has been spayed.
Court date is 11/31.
The truly stupid part is that I have all of her emails, including the first one where she says straight out "I'll sell her for $300 with breeding rights".
Y'all Linx peoples is nuts, ya know that right? [laugh]
Seriously though, sounds open and shut. Good luck BB.
Don't mess with Bun-Bun and his animals.
Does she think you're an amateur or something? [roll] Sarah is available as a character witness if you need one. ;D

I'd like to see this as an episode of Judge Judy, although I wouldn't want the defendant to get reimbursed.

Wow I thought he was dead.
I like him better than the rest. [thumbsup]
I IMDB'd him, he turned 90 this year.
will you make cat hissing noises at her in court? because that would be great.

Great! All moral support greatly appreciated!
Are they still here, or did you move them up with you already?
The lawsuit is for $10,500 + costs.
I figured that is close to what the total selling pricce of her registered offspring would earn over her breeding years.
Maybe it'll give her an incentive to settle before trial.
Actually, at this point, the woman has ticked me off so badly,if I win and get a judgement, I might just tell her to keep the papers, and garnishee her wages. [evil]
you had me right up until the amount.
She look like this?

Do tell, counselor. ???

Look, all I wanted was what was originally agreed to.
Since she decided to breach the contract, and insult me continually as I tried to resolve the situation, I feel completely justified in the amount.
Consider:
These cats sell for $300 each.
Average litter size is five kittens.
Average breeding span is seven years.
300x5x7=10,500
By denying me breeding rights, she is denying me the opportunity for those future profits.
You're a lawyer, so you know better than I do, but it makes sense to me.
Besides, like I said, I really just want the cats papers and to never have to deal with this mental case ever again.

They will still be down there until sometime after the new year.
So i was wondering what the breed looked like and googled them.
Looking at a picture I was wondering what was so special abou them other than the ears.
HOLY CRAP the toms can get up to 20lbs?! and they are polydactyl, very cool.

Now do you have to change your signature line to "Of course I've been to court before, I have a cat" ;)
Yup :-*
Very cool kitteh..... [thumbsup]
Bun-Bun - what a beautiful kitteh. I used to show/breed Chartreux. Luckily I had a breeder I bought from that kept her part of a deal - used one of my males as a stud and I got a kitty of my choice from the litter.
I'm surprised the kitty was only $300 - esp. for a female. She's spectacular.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....
Dude, your cat has Spock ears. ;D
I agree with the lawsuit - if you look at it as a business she is denying your ability to generate income despite an agreement to provide the proper documentation.
Court date held over to 12/14.
