When riding the other day I noticed my speedo was showing about 40 mph too low. This continued to when I stopped and the needle was pointing below 0. When I turn bike on, the needle sweeps, but it stays low and never gets over to the top speed. it also looks like it kind of pushes counter-clockwise at the beginning of the sweep.
I gimped this photo. I can take a better one tonight when I get home...

The speedo needle should be in the same position as the tach needle.
Any ideas? Anyone experienced this? Is it difficult to take the gauge apart?
Thanks for any help!

It's happened before, not an all to common problem.
I ripped mine apart and reset it, it worked for a little but not for long.
mine was the tach.
Nothing the dealer can do aside from replace the gauge set and it's crazy expensive...it was $750 last time i checked and i think it's gone up since.
Ugghh! [bang] OK, I'll dig into it and see if I can get it working. After that, I think I'll look into disabling the immobilizer and getting an aftermarket dash...
Thanks for the response...
I pulled it apart and the needle wasn't sticking well to the pin that moves it. I put a small drop of superglue in the hole that the pin goes into on the needle, and re-installed it. It worked and I expect the superglue will hold it for a long time. If you didn't do this, I can see why your fix didn't last for long.
I wanted to post up the fix, just in case it happens to someone else.
