Anyone else have this problem? I swapped the stock fender on my '03 800 Monster for a superbike fender. I like that the SBK fender protects my fork tubes but the back of the fender sits higher up the tire so I'm guessing my engine and oil cooler are getting blasted with water in the rain. The other day riding home in cool weather with a steady rain the bike temp never got above 'LO' on the gauge. This is an 8 mile ride at 40-45mph. When it's not raining the bike is usually around 160-170F when I get home. I noticed the same thing on a 12 mile highway sprint in the rain the other day, never got above 'LO'.
Anyone else notice this problem? Is it the shorter SBK fender or just the nature of an air cooled bike in the rain?
Thanks,
Scott
I made an aluminum shield that covers 1/2 of the oil cooler. I use it in cold weather.
I also have the SBK fender on my 03 M800 and never noticed the low temperature when riding in the rain. My temps are usually around 210 or higher dry.
Could your sensor be erroneous? May be nice, as you probably run a richer mix.
The sensor is fine. If I ride really slowly for a while it warms up and it always works fine in the dry. It does run rich but it's so rich it won't idle smoothly. Plus do I really need more power in the rain? ;)
A cover for the oil cooler might be a good idea. It's rainy and cold at the same time here in Protland, OR so that could work.

i had that issue. but instead of the fender, the rain was just so insane, that in a 60degree day i wouldnt go past LO and 125.
For my oil cooler, i just use tape in the winter.
Tin foil is a quick and easy way to block the oil cooler. Bonus there is you can adjust it, take it off or replace it to deal with varied temps
