Title: 620 power increase Post by: caperix on November 15, 2009, 01:49:57 PM When I got my 848 I made the mistake of keeping my monster 620. I still love the monster but the other bike tends to point out the short commings of the starter monster. I have allready done alot of suspension work to get the bike to handle like it should, now I would like to close the power gap some. So far the options I have looked at are; Fast by Ferracci big bore kit, cylinders bored to 750 spec 88mm bore with pistons. 695/800 top end, same displacement increase as Ferracci kit with better flowing heads. 696 top end, even better flowing heads than 695/800, same displacement increase. Motor swap, swap in a 800, 900, 1000, 1100.
I like the bike and already have one bike payment so I do not want to buy a different bike, I just want some more power out of the one I have. I think 70 - 80 hp would keep me happy for some time, and with my options that should be doable with a budget of $1000 - $3000. Any oppinions/suggestions would be helpful. Going the big bore kit on your 620 I've heard some issues arrive with it. I went the exhaust/open top air box and FI controller, maybe not 70~80hp but, at least better low to mid response. I'd love to get the heads to flow better and maybe increase displacement to no more than 700cc using 695/696 pistons and maybe a 800/1000cc head or a very very good head work. Can't say any more, you've got your budget limit, spend wisely ... Title: Re: 620 power increase Post by: kopfjÀger on November 15, 2009, 02:46:17 PM I would say, go with a larger displacement motor.
Title: Re: 620 power increase Post by: fasterblkduc on November 15, 2009, 03:57:33 PM I've raced a 620 for a few years and I have a lot of experience making a 620 go fast. I've seen a lot of guys put big money and time into these to keep the displacement but make them faster for racing. My advice is...bolt up a 800 or 900 motor. It will work with your budget and it's the best way to get the power you want. You'll have to change the ECU and you should go with an older FI 900 without the immobilizer. But really, you won't get what you want unless you just get a bigger motor. You could put the motor work into yours but you will not get that much HP gain.
I'm on to a 900 myself. Now I get to beat up on SVs. [evil] Title: Re: 620 power increase Post by: Raux on November 15, 2009, 09:58:43 PM what's the power output on your 620? weren't you selling your motor?
Title: Re: 620 power increase Post by: fasterblkduc on November 16, 2009, 01:21:29 AM what's the power output on your 620? weren't you selling your motor? 60 rwhp. My motor is stock. I've put my work into the chassis. But I know plenty of other race 620s that have motor work so I know what the results are. The only reason that anyone has done it is to stay in a race class, otherwise, it's not worth it. Otherwise, find you an 800, 900, or 1000 motor, its already all put together, and you just bolt it on, attach the chain and airbox, and away you go. Title: Re: 620 power increase Post by: caperix on November 17, 2009, 01:14:05 PM My main question with a motor swap would be the immobilzer. I have heard the ECU can be reflashed to have this feature removed. If I go that direction would it be better to find a motor with ecu and have that ECU reflashed with the immobilizer removed, or have the 620 ecu flashed to the specs of the larger motor?
