That's the American way... :-\
Welcome to corporate America, where liability rules.
Lawyers deem them risky and that's that.
I've done similar in my business and there's nothing you can do. :P
Looks like they sent their concept designer back to the ocean guppy commune he came from a day late and dollar short. That new 1199 looks half way decent.
Wow man that's messed up...

Juries assign responsibility to the manufacturer so counsel advises to prevent litigation.

That reminds me of when they destroyed all the Mazdas that were on that cargo ship.

Ok, NOW I feel bad for Eric Buell.
I betcha poor Erik is in tears. I would have liked to see more on the 1199. This is make the beast with two backsed up in every sense of the word.

Ah yes the Couger Ace. There was a really neat article in wired about that salvage. They touched on the fact that all the cars were scrapped. Those cars were a legitimate liability. The ship was over, near 60 degrees for a couple weeks with the cars attached to the deck via there wheels. That cannot be got for any of the suspension, or the frame
think of the money for the tires alone.
add in the money they would save by actally recycling all that properly.
i'm not a big fan of buell, but that picture makes me sad.
I'm sure they're headed to India.
Buell being "allowed" to race in the AMA the way they did kinda irritated me.
But seeing that still makes me :'(
:(

That's just a ridiculous indictment of corporate America. Anytime when it's cheaper and more preferable to toss product into a bin, especially product that costs that much, I get irritated.
What alternative do you propose? The average American (read: juror) will hold the manufacturer liable if something was to go happen to a person who bought the surplus bike, therefore its cheaper to avoid that pickle all together.
I heard rumors; rumors, mind you; that HD was going to repair Buell bikes for the next 4 to 5 years. I don't know if that includes warranty work or just doing service and providing parts. Funny thing is most HD shops (in Houston anyway) didn't sell Buell bikes.
Sure it's probably cheaper in the end avoid the liability, but god what a terrible waste. I'm sure I'll have that image in my mind next time I fork out $140 for a new tire.
That pic is from the the product development center.
Company bikes ,demo's prototypes.
Hopefully Erik will be back.
Right now HD will not sell Buell so who knows.
make the beast with two backsing Fags.
make the beast with two backs HD [evil]

That's another level of idiocy as well. The bikes should be sold or stripped for parts. Something other than tossing them for scrap.
How crazy expensive would that be? You've got to individually disassemble, inspect, advertise, and warrant each individual part!
I owned a Buell once. Road it from Anchorage to the Grand Canyon and then to Portland Or. Thought about owning another, if they would dropped the stupid air scopes on the 1125. Yeah so let me add my $0.02. make the beast with two backs Harley! [puke]
I almost find that pic hard to believe. First off, the scrap company would be seriuosly pissed. Second, would there not be some sort of auction. In todays world, businesses that get closed usually have persons in charge to take care of liquidating assets. Clearly those bikes have some value.
I'm guessing' you'll see some of those parts on EBay.
buell was going to make an 1199? huh?

The rumor from the factory was 40 more hp an 50 less pounds.
I think the hp was understated and the weight overstated, but that doesn't really matter anymore, does it.

I think Eric Buell will be back. H-D is selling the 1125's for nearly half price, trying to get the bikes out of their dealerships. I think once the H-D/Buell dealers are once again all Harley, they will sell the Buell Name and Factory to make some $$$, afterall Buell bikes don't really compete with Harley Bikes. I hope this is true. I couldn't pass up the half price Buell...150hp and 400lbs, all for under $7K. The Radiators don't look too bad from the saddle!!!

and this is supposedly the Buell that was in the works...
Look, its a 1098 with a bad tail and a poor bellypan/bodywork seam!
not too bad overall. only thing that screems buell from past designs is the perimeter brakes and the jacket the rider has.

Really nice bike, especially for the $$
:(
I must have missed something big, whats going on with Buell? As in why are they throwing bikes away and someone mentioned Harley shops are getting rid of them, what happened? I havent read anything in any of the 3 mags I get.
they closed 'em down. there is no more buell, effectively.
