I live in SF bay area and commuted today to work. When I got back home and parked, the bike was making a weird noise.. i'm 99% sure its coming from the gas tank.. it sounds like it was *purrring* or *leaking gas* or *farting* The noise was the loudest near the gas cap.. is this normal? I opened up the gas cap to let the air out but it was still doing it after I closed it.
Is this because the weather is cold?? High 60s, low 40s when I was riding home this evening.
Thanks.

This sounds like a Tech question....
gas overflow or vapor tubes clogged?
do you still have the charcoal canister?
intake leak somewhere?
just some ideas.
It's normal.

I'll check my vapor tube later tonight..
this is normal? so yours farts too? o-O
Mine sounds more like whale songs. Make sure your vent tubes aren't blocked/crimped.

Are you running a vapor canister? If not, remove the little rubber piece that goes between the cap and the tank. It serves no purpose without the canister.
+1 on the whale song. Louder after a long hard ride in cold weather. After I learned "it's normal" it's cool [thumbsup]

The reason it makes more noise on a cool day is the fuel in the tank contracts faster and air has to enter the tank faster. Since the hole in the cap doesn't change the rubber flap resonates because of the rapid air movement..

I hope you get this sorted out, but if it makes a sound that reminds you of purring AND farting, you should take your cat to the vet.
;)
what is this "canister" you guys speak of... ?????

All monsters have a charcoal vapor canister as delivered from the factory.
Most people take them off.
It's black plastic.
What bike do you have?
i have a 06 S2R 800 [bacon]

Do you have a black plastic container in between the side covers with small diameter tubing running into it?
i have no idea what its suppose to look like.. i should have it since I don't think the previous owner removed it..
It would be below the oil cooler on the left side of the bike. A small black box with 3 hoses connected to it.
