The best chance would be to petition WERA to create a series. Without enough competitors and purses to draw those competitors, it won't happen. You could race in the MotoGT series...there are several 848s there. I was going to race in that series next year but it looks like it's not going to happen now. Title: Re: 848 Racing Series? Post by: Jester on November 18, 2009, 10:12:54 AM I think the cool factor comes from essentially buying into the series with the purchase of a new 848 and gear. You don't have to mod the 848 to hardly any degree to be competitive. Just exhaust and tires pretty much. Having a series based on the stockers is a pretty cool idea, and you get to race on some sweet tracks.
The bulk of the costs would be floating your transportation, living quarters, and repairs. Still out of the realm for a lot of people, but a neat entry into racing none the less. Post by: zooom on November 18, 2009, 10:23:46 AM they did the same thing 2 years ago with HyperMotards and had a special fairing kit for it and everything...was kinda cool actually...

Biggest cost is tires, entry fees, Friday practice, and yes repairs/maintenance. Most racers are more than willing to camp because if it comes down to hotel or paying for practice and tires, then guess which one wins. And if you are talking about the initial cost of buying a trailer...that's only one thing on a very long list of expensive things needed to complete the circus that it takes to race. If someone is going to do a series like this one, you have to have a ton of stuff to pull it off. Racing is not for those that are afraid to spend money, and lose a lot of time. Especially if you want to do an entire series like this one. It will cost several thousand per weekend. They may get people doing one round here and there but the only people that will do the whole series, will have a team, sponsors, and access to lots of $. Trust me, I do this every summer. The way to make a small fortune racing, is to start with a big fortune. [beer] Title: Re: 848 Racing Series? Post by: caperix on November 18, 2009, 01:43:13 PM "Spec" series are big in the car racing world, I would like the idea of seeing some spec classes in bike racing. But if we see one in the US it would be spec GSXR. No better way to get into racing and build your skills than racing against identical vehilcles.

Off the top of my head, there are 250 ninja classes, Moriwaki Honda class with big payouts, 450 super single, there was a KTM/Redbull cup, and if DMG had their way, we would have seen a Buell class as the premier class. [laugh] So, there are several here in the USA already. Title: Re: 848 Racing Series? Just last year there were two big youth development classes. KTM, and Suzuki both had big ones. |
