I am sure they vary wildly depending on various factors, but I'm interested in what is a reasonable price range for repainting a monster. I've got a red 695 (plastic tank) that I'd love repainted matte black, with the red frame painted matte gold. I also don't want to pay 9 bazillion dollars.
Anybody have any guidelines with regards to painting prices?
I had my s2r redone in Pearl White with a Cobalt (metallic blue) stripe down the middle for $400 even from the local body shop. This was Tank, rear cowl, front fairing and front fender. They did a good job. As far as the frame is concerned... the biggest time constraint is tearing the bike down.
Depends on the amount of prep you can do yourself and the quality that you require really. Lots of shop hours if you can't take the bike apart yourself.
paint jobs vary from location to location based on the worker and how known they are, what brand of paint they use as well as surface prep. Most of your cost will come from surface prep and material costs.
You can prep a surface all you want, but youd have to find a person thats willing to work with your preped surface because if the pain job comes out wrong either its liquid or powder coating, they'll blame it on your prep job. That's unless they did it for you. then you can just blame them.
I personally prefer the aesthetic of longitudinal metal marks made by the movement of gravel against painted surfaces myself. That what I'm calling my new rugged bike look

And whilst we're on the subject.....what does the DucPainter charge to paint the fairing, tank, fender, seat, and part of the windscreen (to form a number plate where it meets the fairing) for a '67 Aermacchi/HD roadracer? The parts are in black gel coat over fiberglass (straight from Glass From the Past) except for the windscreen, which is virgin lexan. I'd need to have 4 or 5 misdrilled mounting holes filled and you'll want to prep the surface to your liking, as the gelcoat is a little rough IMHO. The inside surfaces are in raw 'glass, but needn't be painted unless you feel it's absolutely necessary.

I got lucky and a traded a vanity and hope chest restoration for a paint job on the Duc. Then screen printed a couple dozen company t-shirts for the paint job on the chopper. These were 2 differant people so you never know what skills you may be able to trade. Bill who painted the Duc said it would be $ 400 if I brought in the pieces myself, that was rear cowl, tank, radiator farings and windscreen done in yellow and with 3 coats of CII LITE glow in the clear and then 3 coats of regular over the glow clear. Sorry no idea on what it would have cost to get the frame painted as well. Punx and I both paid $400 for the tins so theres a good starting point to shop around with.

I used Brad Diez of Speedzone Paint & Bodyworks when I got my bike repainted a coupla years ago, before I knew Nate/ducpainter was frostys finishes. I had a good experience with Speedzone, and Nate's work is shown a lot on these boards as well. A local option for DFW'ers is Brad Miller (Motion Ducati) who does some really good looking (classy) paint schemes on superbikes.
