I'm in China for the first time. I've been totally blown away by what I've seen. The people are so awesome. I don't think I've ever met a more social, friendly and accepting population traveling. I haven't done too many touristy things. I'm here working, but I thought I'd show some countryside bike culture. I also got to visit the Duck Dealer and Yam dealer. Very cool guys.
Lane sharing OK [thumbsup] in both directions!

Not to color the place the wrong way. The city is growing beyond anything I've imagined.
This small town of 10,000,000 started construction in 1989.
They go BIG here. The Shenshen skyline is giving Manhattan a run for it's money, and the light show at night puts Los Vegas to shame.
This airport sized building is a Library bookstore. "Massive skyscraper" is for wimps here. Colossal is the new it word.

LOL @ Yam dealer. Looks tasty!
Yes, some Chinese cities are growing beyond believe, especially Shanghai. Large sections of the old city were taken back by the Chinese government over the past 2 decades to make way for the modern Shanghai. Since Chinese citizens aren't allow to own the land, it was fairly easy for the government re-claim the land... only in Chinese where mega cities can be built over night.
LOL at the pic of the duck dealer! you got me.
thanks for sharing. have heard similar feedback from friends who have visited. enjoy your trip!
Nice pictures! What part of China are you in? Shenzhen?

Ok you asked for it:
This trip has completely blown my mind. In some ways, (not every way,) Hong Kong is about 100 years ahead of any city I've seen in the US. They have a truly impressive mixture of progressive multi-leveled city planning, architecture, ancient culture, food and lifestyle melded together. There is a melting pot of ethnicities, cultures, languages, US, Euro, and Asiatic branding, and a city landscape who's texture outdoes New York by quite a stretch. To boot they have racing culture I found on normal daytime TV [thumbsup]
PS the second tallest building ("IFC1") you see on the left is the one from BATMAN The Dark Knight. The rest of the city has a hint of BLADE RUNNER, with its endless jingles and blinking lights on towers.

Scooters rule the roads here

But you can find just about any kind of bbike buzzing around this sunny 73F November day.

Cops ride sporty Hondas and ride around like bad-asses somehow immune to the frenetic traffic. The hills remind me of San Francisco. Cresting some of them will take your breath away. These folks blow around corners on the gas like they were in go-carts.

There is no end to the over stimulation here. I imagine soon they will be putting blinking LED signs on foreheads.
The shoes on he chicks are unreal. This place is one big non-stop party - shopping by day - drinking dining by night. You are never ever alone.

You can walk all over town on pedestrian bridges. Some kids go from school to mall to home and never touch the ground. To go from your home to the subway metro to the airport, you take an elevator. Done.
I checked in my bags 100 meters from my hotel at the subway entrance and got my flight boarding pass. I got on the subway which took me to my gate at the airport. I got my bags at my destination. Holy *#&! that was easy.
Elevator, subway, airplane, home. I was never on the ground level in traffic. Hello? Why don't we have that?

I think I love Hong Kong. Could I handle this place though? begeebaz it's non-stop.
If I remember right, Blade Runner was supposed to be a dystopia.
But cool that you're enjoying yourself so much, and the reportage is great. Keep it coming.
That wasn't supposed to be a call of Utopian or dystopia, more just the look of massive towers everywhere, blinking lights and thunderstorms.
We flew into the city skimming the tops of mountains in heavy fog then dropped into the valley & flew between the buildings lighted by colorful LEDs by the millions. Pretty trippy experience. Just reminded me of the look of the film in some regards.

Awesome pics. [thumbsup] How are the Clubs?
I only went to the area where all the clubs where. Whole blocks are pedestrian only, rows and rows of bars and clubs with live bands and dance clubs open until 5AM. There was such a party in the street I didn't go in any of them. But they looked pretty cool. There was obvious talent all around. Next time I go I will. Going back in a few weeks.
PS. The people are from absolutely EVERYWHERE. Lots of Australians, English, French, Chinese, Thai, Americans, and local Hong Kong folks. etc etc.

Awesome book BTW, highly recommended for the "WTF - I can't believe they're doing that" factor on each page.
Looks like an awesome place to visit. Thanks for the post [thumbsup]
