Title: Take my wife ... please.
Post by: Michael on November 23, 2009, 10:13:18 AM
(Reference: "Take my wife, please." is an old one-liner from Henny Youngman)

This thread is dedicated to our lovely wives and what motorcycle things they "let" us do.

Wives are wonderful, don't get me wrong.  :-*

But I know a lot of guys whose wives won't even let them buy a motorcycle. And there are other wives who let their husbands buy a motorcycle, but won't let them go on group rides, or spend money on mods, or whatever.

So this thread is for those stories of men whose wives oppress.

Share your Ducati vs. wife story with us!

I've been lucky.  My ex-wife of 21 years rode her own motorcycle and my current girlfriend also rides.  She has an SV650N and a Suzuki M50.

I aint griping.

My wife of 29 years tolerates all my expensive habits.  I have a fleet of motorcycles, regularly go on extended rides with "the boys" and buy goodies at will.  Life is good, My wife is a saint.

She has a bike and is working on riding now and hopefully will get confident to the point we can ride together, she does not much care for riding on the back.

Bike vs. Girlfriend

The lass was out there lubing my chain on the S4R when the kickstand caught on the ground. When she went to lean it over, she didn't realize the kickstand wasn't where it was supposed to be, and it fell on her.

After her knee recovered, I married her and sold the bike.

I guess she won.  :P

my girlfriend hates motorcycles, but puts up with mine with the occasional (any chance she gets) nagging about getting rid of them and how dangerous they are.

Title: Re: Take my wife ... please.
Post by: fastwin on November 23, 2009, 05:15:02 PM
Gee, sounds like my wife! She hates (and is scared of) guns and motorcycles... why the hell did she marry me? [bang] Since I am older than she is I always fall back to my favorite comeback: "I have been riding longer than you have been alive. I'll stop riding when the reverse is true!" She's 40 and this year is my 45th year up on two wheels! [thumbsup] [moto] [drink]

When I was in the hospital two and a half years ago with four crushed vertebrae from being attacked by a wild turkey at highway speed on my bike (the story is buried somewhere on other threads, I won't bore you with it here...) in a drug induced stupor I told my extrememly worried and upset wife (who thought I was going to be paralyzed from the neck down!) that she should just come to grips with the fact that none of this was going to keep me from riding again. Gee, that went over well! [roll] The only reason she didn't pile all my bikes out on the curb for the monthly bulk garbage pick up is because she didn't know where the keys were to all the OnGuard locking cables!! She's a saint too... but she still hates guns and motorcycles. [laugh]

Ungeheuer had motorcycles.

Then for 20 years Ungeheuer didnt have motorcycles.

One day Ungeheuer said: ".....y'know I think I might get another motorcycle...."

To which Mrs Ungeheuer said ".....I dont think so..."  Followed by a   l o n g   speech about the dangers.....blah, blah, and responsibilities... blah, blah...and........... [coffee]......

My current Monster is an '09 M1100s  ;D

And the long speech about dangers..... etc... etc....??  Oh I think its still in progress.  Funny thing is that I dont hear it from inside my helmet  [moto] [moto]

It only took me 5 years of nagging to get my wife on board with me having a motorcycle.  She doesn't like them and wants nothing to do with them, but she knows it makes me happy.  She doesn't like how it has pushed the Volvo out of the garage.  She doesn't like that I am constantly spending money on it.  She doesn't like how I always talk about it.  But she really hates when I talk to it.  She must have overheard me pregnant dogin' about her.

She thought it was a good idea to go buy a bike at the other end of the country and ride it down. Twice  ;D While we had no car. She's a keeper.

I had an ex that did not enjoy me riding. She went batshit and cut up all my gear, threw my helmet down the stairs and tried to kill herself.  :-\ I've learned to keep away from such people

My wife is enthusiastic because she knows it makes me happy. She worries, but I had her read my MSF class manual and she worries less now. Besides, she finds it "hot"  when I come in covered in grease, brake dust and other gunk after I'm wrenching in the garage.

I want that shirt.

Had a Monster before we got married (sold just before to help pay for things), and just a few months later, I bought another Monster.  She worries, but likes to ride and trusts me as a rider (just not other suckass drivers).

The other day she told me that she'd sell my bike if I ever did wheelies (old bike was 620, new bike is a m900).  I told her no, she can't, because the title is in my name  [cheeky]

When AM and I decided after a year of jetting back and forth across the country to stop doing the long distance thing & take our show off the road, I packed up a U-Haul and moved across the country to Arizona, with her sharing the driving.

When I rolled the Monster down the ramp upon arrival, she said "That looks like fun. What are you going to ride?" We started looking for a second bike right then, which eventually came home as a '98 ST2. She'd owned a Sportster before I met her, but hated the ride.

Since we've both tried the marriage thing with miserable results, we've agreed to stick with the happily ever after part without the formality of a state-issued license.

In Texas half of that bike would be hers if you bought it after marriage and if you paid for it out of a joint account. Don't ask me how I know this! [bang] Damn community property bullshit!! Just tell her that the 900 was designed by Ducati not to be able to do wheelies and besides things like that scare the hell out of you! [laugh]

I want that shirt too!! [thumbsup]

Well...  My wife likes my Ducatis.  She rides on the back of them and puts up with me riding like a maniac with or without her on the back.  [evil]   My wife also re-locates my toe when I take my 30-year old dual-sport off road and come home with a dislocated toe  [laugh]  She likes my twins (and I like her twins) [evil]) enough that we bought her a V-twin  ;D, a Honda Hawk.  It's not a Ducati, but she'll understand why we like our twins 8)  I think know I'll keep her  ;D

After I sold my car my wife says to me, "you should get a motorcycle."

And so I started looking at motorcycles.

And then she said, "Why don't you get a Ducati?"

And so I got a Ducati.

I just love keeping her happy.   ;D

True story. But what's funny is my wife also wants to get a motorcycle and she's not interested in getting a Ducati. She's intimidated by mine, but I want us to match.  :-\

Seems there are more riders with approving spouses here than not.  My wife is my usual riding buddy.  She's having to take a leave of absence from riding so my miles are down without her getting me up early on Sunday mornings to ride 80 miles just to get breakfast.  Only downside is she a passionate Valentino fan while I'm devoted to Ducs and Stoner.  Oh, and she won't let me trade in her SV650 for a duc.  Yeah, other than those faults, she is the best.

MOTORCYCLE, you pervs.  I'm 6'3" and she's 5'10", so the Monster isn't the best for two-up riding, but she still wants me to keep mine.  Cruiser, here I come.

Sounds familiar.

After we got married, husband took out a large life insurance policy on me, bought me new levers, put them on, then left the country on a business trip.

It was a few days later when trying to do an emergency stop that I discovered they weren't quite adjusted right and the brake wouldn't fully engage...luckily only resulting in a very minor wreck. [roll]

my wifey rocks.  after a lot of quiet lobbying over the course of 10 years, she finally warmed to the idea and let me get a Duc 5 months after the birth of our first child.  (in exchange, i sold my dreamcar and thereby marketed the idea as a good financial move.)  she loves that it makes me so happy.  and it probably doesn't hurt that Ducs are basically sex on wheels.

Then a couple weeks ago she comes home with a big gift-wrapped box for our son, who is now 20 months.  Inside is the little monster pictured in my profile.  How cool is that!

She is the definition of keeper.

Wife and I have an agreement; she spends her money on whatever she wants, I spend my money on whatever I want. Seperate accounts all the way down the line. It's worked for twenty years now.
I walked in the other day, "I bought another motorcycle."
"That's nice, dear."

My wife, beautiful, stunning model material. Guys looking all the time and whispering to each other!!!
A 4WD pulled up in my drive way with a race trailer connected to the tow bar.  I rush out of the house and lowered the trailers tail gate, my eyes popping out of my head as I was looking at the 1198R strapped down and I looked around the trailer at all the other goodies hanging and the boxes of boots and a helmet then a guy tapped me on my shoulder and said sign here, I signed, he handed me a birthday card that read "to my darling husband may all your dreams come true" I had tears in my eyes and I was thinking my wife she is so beautiful as I walked around to the front of the trailer to help the guy remove it from the 4WD. I started tugging and pushing and tugging and pushing then suddenly my wife yells out " what the hell are you doing to the blankets" I WOKE UP!!  [bang]
