Hi All,
just installed a DIY LED tail light and work fine with the foot brake, but somehow it doesn't light up as brightly with the front brake its like there isn't enough electrical current to light the elements. i did change the front switch but that didn't solve the problem, switch back to original filament bulb again foot brake work fine but hand brake doesn't even light the bulb. really need the pros advice here. cheerios....

Anyhoo, if your bike is like most Monsters, first I would check the cheesy connectors at the switch. Since you changed the switch you know where they are. While you are there, check to see if you have battery voltage at the violet/black wire to the switch. Then I would check the adjustment. If you loosen the two 1 mm screws that hold the switch in place you can move the switch. My guess is the adjustment is your problem.

sounds like the lever switch is malfunctioning or even disconnected
oh yeah..forgot to mention my bike its a monster 620ie 2002. thanks for the advice guys, i did check and replace the microswitch but still didn't solve problem. other than the switch is there any other area i should have checked? the tail led is on when i pressed the hand brake but its dim, not as bright as the foot brake, i've also checked the wiring that goes into the tail light and they are in order. thanks for welcoming me howie [beer] cheers...
You should have power at the violet/black wire to the switch when you turn the key on. If you don't, there is a break in that wire, start tracing back. If you do have power, connect that wire to the gray/red wire. If the brake light now lights, everything going to the rear of the bike is good, and the problem is on the switch side. If not, start tracing the gray/red wire. The switch is a normally closed switch, in other words, when the plunger is pressed, the brake light is off, released, on.
