I just realized my brake light is not coming on when I get on my front brake. It only works occasionally (loose connection somewhere I guess). The rear brake triggers the light 100% of the time. I'm using an integrated taillight but I dont think any of the wiring back there is the problem although I have yet to check. Has anyone had this problem? Is there some kind of faulty switch on the brake lever thats prone to taking a dump? Havnt really checked it out at all, posting here to see if its a known fix.
Since it works fine by using the rear brake lever, it's not an issue with the light itself.
I just replaced my front brake micro switch (mounted on the lever/master cylinder assembly)
The micro switch is exposed to the elements and seems to be in a cheap plastic housing, not likely weatherproof.
Either a warranty replacement or buying a new will probably fix it.
When you or your dealer replace it, make sure the LITTLE plastic piece between the switch and lever doesn't disappear. [roll]
If you follow the wires down from the switch you will come to two cheesy connectors. Check that the connections are tight and clean. Also, when you disconnect the switch, if you jump connect the wires going to the rear of the bike, the light should light with the key on. If you put an ohm meter on the wires from the switch, you should have continuity when you squeeze the lever. Don't condemn the switch yet. The problem may be the adjustment. Loosen the 1 mm. screws that hold the switch in place. Now the switch will move.
Hint: The switch is a normally closed switch, Plunger depressed, no brake light, plunger not depressed, brake light on.

+1 Always the problem when mine goes out. PITA, though, better system needed.
It involves a little black piece(mine was rubber) that fits behind the lever. When mine was doing that it was because the little piece had some bug guts obscuring its function. I cleaned it out and that fixed it.
