Title: Ducati 916 Dark (Knight) Mod Watch
Post by: djrashonal on November 27, 2009, 03:23:51 PM
So since the mod bug hit me I've decided to take the all or nothing approach. Two months ago, I purchased a 2001 Monster S4 with all the trimmings...it's a great bike, it's not MY bike. So I have decided to do a complete transformation.
It started with:

Ohlins rear shock
Ohlins steering dampener
GSXR 1000 forks with Matris internals. Installed by The Department of Suspension.
Tokico Radial brake calipers
GSXR radial clutch mc
GSXR radial front brake mc
STM full floating buttons on rotors
Cyclecat top clamp
Custom clipons
DP racing fairing
AIM MyChrom III custom dash with lap timer and sending unit
Sargent seat with tube storage under the seat
Risoma mirrors
Cyclecat rearsets with custom foot pegs
Cyclecat frame sliders
Cyclecat full open clutch cover
Cyclecat sprocket cover
Speedymoto case cover
Barrnet clutch basket and plates
Red Casoli pressure plate
DP Al radiator tube
PCIII USB with custom map
SPS cams degreed
STM adjustable pulleys
Pistal HC pistons
Full DP 45/50 SS exhaust with Ti exhaust cans
DP corsa ecu
DP oil cooler
Yoyodyne clutch slave
Rear fender eliminator
New F/R 15/42 sprockets (Super Sprocket rear) DID ERV3 520 chain

from there I have sold a lot of the "go fast" parts off and started to transform it into the bike I want.......new tank, new rearsets, SSS conversion, new headlight, tail chop, LEDs all around.....I have a vision..... Stay Tuned

If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or tips - feel free to post.

Parts list:
SSS - Sourced, thanks Muskrat
Eccentric Hub -  Thanks Brad @MotionSBK
SSS Wheel- Still needed
rear tire fit for wheel size - Still needed
s4r rearsets - still needed
s4r headers/exhaust - sourced, thanks BT
Shock- may be needed (depending on clearance of current shock)
Decals - sourced, Thanks eichh
Internals for gas 2002 gas tank - still needed

PC that Swingarm.
Polish the lower triple and grind down the casting marks to match the top. or PC them bth.

and this is jsut me, but id get rid of those Cycle Cat rearsets, they are worth alot to some people, and being that there are no spare parts for it...if you never get them damaged, you cant fix them.

Title: Re: Ducati 916 Dark (Knight) Mod Watch
Post by: djrashonal on November 29, 2009, 10:31:56 AM
Swing arm (amongst other things) will be PC'd! The rearsets are going to be put up for sale in the next day or so..... you want'em? [evil] Thanks for the advice on the triple, I'll get it done....but i dont know what you mean about the casting marks. I was planning on PC'n the Upper and lower. You think I should do that or leave them silver?

Title: Re: Ducati 916 Dark (Knight) Mod Watch
Post by: He Man on November 29, 2009, 10:45:57 AM
the casting marks are just the little lip left over from the two halfs of casting it. grind it off and itll look tons better.

I have a S2R1000 that just recently got trashed, so as much as i would like to vulture around your bike parts  [evil]. i cant.  :(. What color are you doing your Swingarm? It would be nice to PC your frame to match.

If all goes well, this winter ill be building a bigger oven to PC my frame. Thats after i sue this guy's insurance for wrecking my bike. :'( and i wanted to PC my frame your silver/grey color. lol but i dont know what color do to my swingarm.

Aww man! Sorry to hear about the bike.... You have my condolences  ;D Im planning on PC'n the frame, swingarm, wheels, triples, headlight bracket, chrome headlight ring (or swap to the duals) maybe sell the carbon fiber belly pan/belt covers and get black ones that match. I've got a PC guy here who can make the wheels black with silver metallic flakes. So It's quite the project, but will be well worth the time! My plan is to black most of the bike out and have the silver accents  [thumbsup]

New Tank came  in yesterday, so i'm getting the stuff together to do the POR-15 treatment. Also, the decals are in the works, thanks to Erik over at TwistedVinylGraphics.com. Presently on the hunt for some stock rearsets with pedals, rear wheel, the pivot bolt for the swingarm, and PM me if you've got a spare S*R part you're willing to donate to the cause! Pics will be up of the Graphics once they're in....

Thanks! I thought that even would make it blend in too much so made it at a slight angle

It seems to be too much of an addiction for me. It looks like I'm Re-redoing the front end, swapping the GSXR front end for that Of a 999. Waiting on the forks and MC's

tank and fairings just got back from the painter and he did a bang up job!

He was able to keep it flat with and throw a silver mist on there! when the forks come back I'll swap those on and throw the tank on. (or maybe it will be what I do tomorrow AM)

Thanks to Erik at Twistedvinylgraphics.com (and here on the board) for the decals! Awesome work!

Sweet dude, what kind of headlight are you planning to go with?

I've got my stock headlight I painted black, and I got a thruxton windscreen going around that. I just got inside from doing a mock up and it looks good.

I've rerouted a bunch of the wiring and eliminated the U-Bracket and other junk so everything just slides into place. I like the look. Hopefully I'll be finishing that up tomorrow. Once that's done, fresh fluids all around and I should be good to go for the 1st stage of it's transformation  [evil]

Unless you guys have a better idea for the Headlight?

I think the boobies will look just right!

Yea, but unfortunately my present lack of income doesn't lend to buying too many new Headlights  :-\

I wouldn't say better, headlights are so much a matter of personal taste.  Sounds like yours will come out great, looking forward to seeing the transformation.

Looking good man.  ND is right, headlights are personal preference and if you go with a windscreen fairing then you are left with fewer options as some really cool headlights just don't lend themselves well to being mounted with a fairing without quite a bit of fabwork/bodywork.

so i ripped out my U- Bracket and a bunch of the other little brackets and Holders holding the wiring in place an replaced it with rubber coated metal straps that go around the forks. I lowered the headlight and It looks good  [thumbsup] I've got to get a couple spacers for the thruxton headlight cowl, and a couple other little things and then I'll be ready to fire her up and take her for a photo shoot!

I've got the SSS and all the components sitting in the closet waiting to be thrown together, but before I do that, I want to PC the Swingarm, the rims and the rearsets....To be continued

Very Nice!!  [thumbsup]

I have a '02 S4 that I R'd as well with a SSS.   8)

Are you replacing your shock as well when you convert it to SSS?
The Showa I had on there didn't fit on the SSS, not sure if the Ohlins is any different.

I was gonna check the clearance, but from the looks of it, there shouldnt be an issue. I have the ohlins shock with the smaller res and remote, so hopefully it clears, otherwise, im selling the ohlins and i'll buy a new shock i suppose!

It's sitting in a box next to the swingarm! I've got those, and new rearsets to throw on there.....but....the wife wants to do some 2-up riding so while its nice and cool here in AZ i'll leave the bike the way it is so she has some pegs to ride on. When it gets hot (spring/summer) i'll rip off the rear end and have my way with her.....i mean install the new stuff  [beer]

Good.
It sounds like you did your homework.

I did my conversion about 3 years ago and discovered the exhaust and rear shock wouldn't work after I was done installing the swingarm.  :P

What exhaust are you putting on there?

i've got the stock s4r exhaust for right now. we'll see how much i get for my termis and that will determine how much I can spend on a new exhaust. What exhaust did you use?

EDIT: another pic for those who don't like all this talking -

I really like that DDD exhaust.....think there would be any issue with integrating that with a SSS?

Good question.  Looks like it runs under the chain on the DSS don't know if there is the same clearance on the SSS.

Email them and ask: ducati-dortmund@online.de
Ask them about the "2 in 2 Auspuff, TÜV bis Bj. 98 möglich".  I called it the "RoadRacing" style exhaust because it looks like the exhaust that used to be produced by the now defunct "RoadRacing" parts company.

Thanks JS! I got the Motodynamics light in smoke and I love it, though that ebay price is hard to beat!

I found a few pics online that had this exhaust on a SSS, so it looks like the clearance would work out....now just to find a set within a decent price range!

So I've gotten to the point where I'm happy....for now.

New additions are Galfer Wave rotors, and my 999 complete front end, with xx9 fender.

Pics are  HERE (http://gallery.me.com/afakhori#100565)

Im not one to like fly screens on monsters.

At all.

but I have to say I love this one!  Love how it surrounds the lense and is all smoothy :D

It somewhat reminds me of a frenched in headlight on a hot rod (the color black helps too)

great job!!!

Thanks!  [thumbsup] its from a triumph thruxton. I dislike most flyscreens, but this one is small and sleek, and like you said, covers all the ugly up (wiring, gauges that i havent bought yet, etc).

I was thinkin about blackin out the rearsets, but was worried about resale when i remove them...any thoughts?
