Title: Where'd ya get them pipes from?
Post by: Monstar_100 on November 30, 2009, 05:35:19 PM
G'day everyone,

i have been looking at a heap of yank websites but i don't know who to trust...

What brand did you get?

why did you choose that brand?

Where did you get yours from (Oz?, website, bike shop)

Would second hand ones be ok?

Cheers,
Marty

Marty,

Might I suggest you have a think about what you prefer first ... general look & size, material, price perhaps ... maybe even the type of sound. Most retailers only sell certain brands so a recommendation for retailer X won't help you if you don't like any of the pipes they sell, etc.

BTW mine are custom jobbies ... not the most economical route to take and may be limiting in choice of materials, really depends on what you are after.

Oh yeah and if you are struggling for inspiration have look at the 'show us your ride' thread here or the 'official bikes of the dmf' thread on the general board. With a hundred pages of pretty pictures you never know you might be able to find something which might help.

If you find something that can be identified it will make it easier to search for and get help.

See there's a start. Low mounts?

If that's the case I will jump in before Matty, Goldie & Yellow Meanie and suggest having a look at Mivvs. I think PJ (PJs Parts) still sells them but may not have pricing on his website ... you may need some mounting brackets though.

I would have thought that style would be relatively easy to find ... and I am sure others would have some suggestions for you.

Hey Marty

The best place to start shopping is with the board sponsors

<
<
<
<

You'll find them down here on the left side, they are well used to shipping internationally and the little AUD is getting better
day by day against the US greenback or whatever colour it is being printed now.

Go shopping there to start.
Then hit www.monsterparts.com (http://)
www.pjsparts.com (http://)
www.revercorsa.com (http://)

all good places in my and our experience.

Now get blinging that Monster, Xmas is coming.

No need for brackets unless you are planning on changing rearsets.

Got my High mount Arrows Carbons from Chris and Candice at CA-Cycleworks.

Good price, excellent service and very reliable.  [thumbsup] [clap]

Hi Marty,
As Betty said, I would do some researching before you spend your hard-earned.

I love my MiVVs, they are exactly what I wanted. There's plenty of pics, and a couple of videos of mine.
Have a look at my "Thylacine" thread in Ozmonsters, and the "MIVV slip ons" thread in accessories and modifications  :D

Marty, another place you could have a look at is www.corsa.co.nz (http://)

I bought my midpipe for my S2R1k cheaper from those guys than anywhere else. They sell various makes of pipes.
with the exchange rate to the NZ dollar you can't go wrong.
I think by memory they sell alot of Marving exhausts for Ducatis

I got my marvings from monsterparts.
Overall very happy with both the service from Jeff, and the pipes themselves.
I went with the marvings as they had what I wanted (left/right high rise cans in carbon) and were the best value for money.  I would also have liked Arrows, but they ended up being very expensive.
Drop me a line if you want more details.

They need to be hosted elsewhere i.e. flickr, photobucket etc....

Once they are you copy the image location and paste it between image tags >....... (http://....in here.....)
The image tags can be found above second in on the left under the italic button.

cheers

Excellent Marty.
Now you have a real sounding Ducati Monster, not the "singer sewing machine" we met that other week.
So what does Ollie have on his bike now!
OR has his Monster been sent to a new home.

Not a chance, i'm completely addicted to this bike and and the 'to do' mods list seems to be growing all the time, probably correlating  with time spent on this site!

I've just put on a set of sexy Marving reverse megaphone pipes, I'll post some pics soon

What I replaced the remus cans with, that Marty now has on his bike.

They are Marving - made in Italy, classic looks, great fit and finish and they sound great, couldn't be happier with them.

Don't mind 'em but me likes different. Came across them (HPEs) when I was looking for my pipes but couldn't actually find anyone that was stocking them.

Not a fan of the welds on the cans though.

Bugger that. Pack earplugs for when you are riding in front of Jukie. Yes (IMO) they are that loud ... almost makes mirrors redundant.

... and I am not going to comment on whether there is a need for earplugs when not riding ...

My exhaust came with the bike  - full set of termi, including cat eliminator pipe.  Excellent look and noise! Just on legal noise wise I would say - but then again loud pipes save lives!

If I had to buy another exhaust I would go the Quat-D ExBox.  Look awesome and sound wicked! Couple of youtube videos on them!  Actually you can google youtube videos for monster exhausts for both look and sound!

Looks to me like the Xbox lessens ground clearance a bit.  Would this be an issue on the Monsters? Like on the track?

Yes ground clearance is an issue....I have scraped mine a few times now so I'm aware of the clearance.  Once was over a speed bump a low speed, now I know to lift my bum.  The second time was when I was pushing hard on a secondary road....hit a big lump of bitumen mid corner & the tail of the ex-box hit.

Since then I've lifted the preload on the back end up a bit & so far so good.  Plus its worth it for the cool look (if your that way inclined) & the sound!

Not a fan of the welds on the cans though.
+1 on the welds. Although other than that I like em lots...

Last time I saw that bike it was wearing Zards....

I however am in lust with the look of Boom Tubes.

And whilst the cheer squad back in the USA is a whoopin' and a hollerin' with rapturous enthusiasm, I cant help but wonder what effect on power output chopping the exhaust system in half would have. You dont see race bikes wearing such abbreviated systems now do ya, and I'm sure they'd be happy to save to the weight. So...... whats the trade-off?

Title: Re: Where'd ya get them pipes from?
Post by: heatherp on January 28, 2010, 01:44:36 AM
I think the Zards look pretty ugly in that context.  The 1100 looks better with the other pipes (whatever they are?) And maybe the Boomtubes are just for looks rather than performance.  But at least you wouldn't be scraping em.

Title: Re: Where'd ya get them pipes from?
Post by: mattyvas on January 28, 2010, 01:54:28 AM
Yeah I'd agree Heather looking at all those options the shotguns look the goods.
I did like the Zards when I first saw them. I like the minimal look of the Boomtubes, I am sure Mark
would not have let any loss of power affect the design of them.

Yup I agree with all of that Matty.  Be nice to understand why most exhaust manufacturers need the whole thing yet with Boom Tubes I can apparently have cool, minimalist looks and yet lose no power  ???

BTW the shotguns dont look so sexy here >>

Hey! What's wrong with pink vehicles?

But is that a real photo? I think I'd be reluctant to use the brake pedal on that bike in case it welded itself to a hot exhaust (doesn't quite look right to me).

I think it is a matter of depth from the photo - considering there is no background.  Would be scary though drag a bit of back brake in a corner and it doesn't come up as like you said it welded itself to the pipe!  :)

.... and IMO (with the exception of the bizarre "dent" half way up the vertical section) its strikingly gorgeous to behold  [bow_down].  The only thing more striking than the exhaust system itself....is the price  :o   ... around 400,000 Yen - which by my calculation comes out somewhere in the region of AU$5000.    :o :o :o
