Title: Key programing and cutting Post by: Fishinado on December 01, 2009, 04:26:55 AM Wondering if anyone has advice on programing a spare key for my 696. Should I try it myself, or take it to to dealer? Anyone know a locksmith that can do that fancy cutting? I'm in West LA. BH Ducati is the closest dealer to me, just wondering if there are any opinions about them. Thanks!

Ask at a BMW car dealer, they use a similar key. Programming the key isn't hard, IIRC there's a FAQ or a thread somewhere here. I'll check around and find a cutter. Hi guys, Just thought I'd ask again, can not find a smith to cut this key. Been everywhere! Would really appreciate a referral! Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: Fishinado on March 31, 2010, 05:18:01 PM Yeah, I've got a blank. Thanks guys!!
Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: Speeddog on April 01, 2010, 08:39:09 AM BMW's have the same 'side-cut' style keys.
The indie BMW shop around the corner gets replacement keys direct from BMW. No love there, then. The guy there said Benz and Porsche use the same style of key. Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: Fishinado on April 01, 2010, 06:20:49 PM Darn! The motorcyclekeys.com guy says no dice as well! Beverly Hills sent me to Santa Monica Lock & Key, they had all the latest cutters there, and they couldn't help. Gotta be someone out there! Maybe this is a job for Duc USA? I really appreciate the help!!
Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: Wang on April 04, 2010, 09:30:52 AM I've never done it before, but my suggestion would be to go through a dealership. I'm sure they can at least point you in the right direction. Maybe you can call one of the service managers at a local shop, too. Allan at Spectrum is pretty helpful: 949-951-1097
Why didn't you get the extra key that comes with your 696? Mine came with two keys and a red card. Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: Fishinado on April 08, 2010, 03:43:59 PM I live in the west side so BH is my dealer, they gave me a referral that didn't pan out. I bought the bike used, only came with one key, luckily I got the card as well. I'll try Allan.

Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: zLoki on April 25, 2010, 07:31:51 AM I've heard about a locksmith in Lake Forest that does these keys, $100 and no guarantee it will work. If you are still in need, I'll look them up and pass along the name...
Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: Fishinado on April 25, 2010, 05:01:53 PM Thank you! Yeah, I'm still in need! Lake Forest isn't going to work. I'm in west LA, and they're gonna need the bike.
Title: Re: Key programing and cutting Post by: zLoki on May 07, 2010, 09:45:43 AM Found the place but I have not used them yet. They are on the corner of Von Karmen and Barranca in Irvine. It's called Irvine Lock and Key. Call ahead if you are planning on using them, only the old guy knows how to use the right machine. They have a second store in Lake Forest. Post up of you use them.
