Am I the only one that thinks Avatar is going to crash and burn? Really none of the previews have done anything for me. They've already given the plot away - even though it was pretty obvious from day one. Cool special effects but really not much else.

I really want to check out Stargate Universe. I haven't watched any of it yet.

I knew the guy that did the martial arts choreography for the Avatar cartoon series. I wonder if they used him for the movie. I kinda doubt it. He used to a putty on power rangers back in the day.  [laugh] Interesting guy. I too think the movie will flop.

I don't see anything that I'm particularly looking forward to.

Avatar != Avatar

Not even close...

Lol, woops. I forgot that the Avatar Airbender live action movie isn't slotted until 2010 and I had forgotten about that other movie. Looked interesting for eye candy but I doubt it'll be much more.

I'm curious about Sci-Fi's Alice. should be interesting. THough it wasn't going to get an Oscar, their 'Tin Man' was an interesting take on the Oz stories.

This Avatar movie is going to have to work real hard not to fail economically, I've heard tell it's costing a butt-ton to make, like $300 million.  IT's going to be tough to make a profit on that one...

Also looking forward to Alice. I liked Tin Man but I wish there were more to it. It's kinda like something was missing but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Kinda wanna see the new Sherlock Holmes movie with Robert Downey Jr even though I hate that guy.

I have to say Stargate Universe is working for me.

I liked the other SG series as well, and this one is definitely more relaxed.  Humorous at times.

It'll be cool to see where they take it.

DUDE! SG-U is awesome. Much more BSG like.  I really like it. Still has some of the campiness of the other SG's (a good thing) but with a better storyline (so far).

Avatar kind of reminds me of War Hammer 40k...humans vs. everything else.  Of course Avatar doesn't have the super awesome space marines!!!!!

Games Workshop is getting started on a cgi film centered on an Ultramarines story. Dan Abnet from Black Library is doing the script.

So it seems I'm not the only table top gamer on the board...

Ever play Space Hulk, the video game? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Hulk_%28video_game%29 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Hulk_%28video_game%29)

Awesome game. The best part was ever once in a while one of the marines would yell: "WE BRING DOOM!" It was (and still is) the only video game that ever gave me goosebumps when playing. Hard game but fun as hell!

Of course. Kinda preferred the miniature version since you got to be both sides. But that did mean you needed a buddy to play. I just picked up the reissue of the mini game.  [thumbsup]

Guessing you've played at least on version of Dawn of War than also?

That sucks about Alice. I won't be able to watch it for a couple days, I recorded it on Tivo.

I don't remember all the 40k stuff I played, another guy ran that. I belonged to a gaming guild (WOW! That dork cred right there) and we mixed up what we played a lot. I wasn't into it as much as AD&D, RIFTS, BattleTech & Call of Cthulhu. CoC was the best game. No one ever lasted that long so you never had the uber high level characters that would blow through anything. Hell, most of the time it wasn't even worth shooting at what ever it was that was going to kill you. Running was in general the best option... If you didn't fail your sanity check.  [evil]

Yeah, never played CoC, but heard that about it. Which seems pretty real.. you're some regular dude fighing some demon... yeah you are NOT going to kicks it's ass. If you don't crap yourself on the spot, run is the best option!

Oh battletech... I enjoyed that one... though I think I might have dug the computer ones more. Speaking of which, a new computer one's due out some time in 2010 I thin'

i liked it. it's a new take on alice in wonderland and through the looking glass. i liked seeing how they worked things in.

plus it doens't hurt that my g/f is a freak for alice and was glued to it.

Alice was ok. Like Tin Man, it just never seems to gel very well in end. I always feel like something is lacking. They throw out a lot of little cool things but never really expands on any of them.

SciFi has done some good stuff - their remake of Dune was really good, and the Children of Dune was awesome.

The more I see of Avatar the less I want to see it. See through plot, complete reliance on special effects. Eyecandy yes, but is it really going to be a good movie like the original Matrix? Or will be more like one of the Matrix sequels. Don't get me wrong, I'm a dork and I'll probably see it the first night in 3D.  [laugh]

Not directly... but it meandered well into that territory  - I've been tempted to toss out a thread like that for a bit now. Pretty much since folks picked up my 'cunning hat' reference with no further clues a bit back.
