Title: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: loneknight66 on December 02, 2009, 12:31:08 PM Hi Guys,
I would like to replace the stock rubber frame plugs with some Ergal ones http://cgi.ebay.it/DUCATI-MONSTER-KIT-TAPPI-TELAIO-ERGAL-DAL-2001-AL-2008_W0QQitemZ380180802519QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRicambi_e_Accessori_Moto?hash=item58848aabd7#ht_1599wt_681 (http://cgi.ebay.it/DUCATI-MONSTER-KIT-TAPPI-TELAIO-ERGAL-DAL-2001-AL-2008_W0QQitemZ380180802519QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRicambi_e_Accessori_Moto?hash=item58848aabd7#ht_1599wt_681) http://cgi.ebay.it/Kit-6-Tappi-telaio-Ducati-Monster-Multistrada-HyperM_W0QQitemZ250540064578QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRicambi_e_Accessori_Moto?hash=item3a5559ff42#ht_1280wt_681 (http://cgi.ebay.it/Kit-6-Tappi-telaio-Ducati-Monster-Multistrada-HyperM_W0QQitemZ250540064578QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRicambi_e_Accessori_Moto?hash=item3a5559ff42#ht_1280wt_681) Which color/type would be better in your opinion? Could Ergal scratch the paint? ( with the rubber ones you are 100% safe) (http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5995/monsters2r10001933843.jpg) Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: corey on December 02, 2009, 12:44:32 PM black.
you have a nice black on red theme going. you don't want to overdo it on the red. plus the odds of the red matching your frame are slim. the black would complement the carbon fiber clutch cover and side panels nicely IMO. also, i wish i lived in italy, as those CNC Racing plugs are bad-make the beast with two backsin-ass. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: stopintime on December 02, 2009, 01:19:33 PM I've had no problems with scratching the paint. It's the expanding rubber that does most of the work.
Visually, black is the way to go. The first ones look better, but that is a 5 piece set - missing the tiny one, going in the left upper hole. That hole isn't very noticeable though, just thought I'd mention it. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: junior varsity on December 02, 2009, 01:37:30 PM The first link looks better to me, they aren't that much different than the STM plugs.
@stopintime: Not all the frame plugs use a o-ring like rubber to actually contact the frame hole that's being plugged, other designs use a circle of metal (C-shaped, or ring shaped with a cut in it to allow expansion) that presses against the paint. It varies by manufacturer. That being said, I've used both and neither have scratched the paint. There's also Corsair Industries to look at. And DesmoWorld.de Remember black could fade to purple, red to pink, and Gold to ... Gold. I like Black a lot, but if it fades fast, you'll be pissed. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: stopintime on December 02, 2009, 01:44:42 PM My black MPL plugs haven't faded, don't know about other brands

Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: kopfjäger on December 02, 2009, 01:44:51 PM Black. Just get a couple sets, so when they fade you can change them out. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: muskrat on December 02, 2009, 01:45:32 PM does anyone make them stateside? I want some too.
Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: kopfjäger on December 02, 2009, 01:46:56 PM missing the tiny one, going in the left upper hole. That hole isn't very noticeable though, I still haven't found an STM plug for that one. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: hackers2r on December 02, 2009, 01:47:54 PM I just saw the STM. Looking for a full set in Gold. Does DP make a set?

There's also Corsair Industries to look at. And DesmoWorld.de One of these is 'merican. Use your powers of sleuthery. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: stopintime on December 02, 2009, 02:08:47 PM While looking for STM I think I saw MotoStrano listing a 14mm plug. If so, wouldn't that fit the 6th hole?
Corsair Industries has a cheap set, but only four plugs. I remember Mark at MotoCreations talking about making plugs without the center allen bolt - a more flush design. I remember Mark at MotoCreations talking about making plugs without the center allen bolt - a more flush design. The 14mm STM one has a large head and fits the swingarm pivot. Then I upgraded to Nichols Motor Mount Bolts. The Titanium nuts on the ends of the rod are long and stick out either side, so no more frame plugs fo' me. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: kopfjäger on December 02, 2009, 02:33:12 PM Same, but the old style, in Gold: That's the new style, with the concave top? Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: junior varsity on December 02, 2009, 02:34:17 PM But I got it a few years ago. Hmm.
Anyhow, its not the cone shaped one. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: hackers2r on December 02, 2009, 04:58:22 PM Anyone with pics of anodized plugs installed?
Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: muskrat on December 02, 2009, 04:59:00 PM Read my post, you ass. its an encyclopedia man. you're not a lawyer yet so write like a normal human being. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: junior varsity on December 02, 2009, 05:03:28 PM just because i'm changing from 'solving problems' to 'creating problems' as a career doesn't mean you can't give the ol' post a look-see.
You can get STM frame plugs from Motostrano and 58-Cycle among others I'm sure domestically as well. Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: Bill in OKC on December 02, 2009, 08:08:52 PM My black MPL plugs haven't faded Mine haven't either and won't scratch the frame. (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc190/stankbone/DSC00769.jpg) Yeah yeah nice frame plugs, but hey how about some pics of what's sitting behind the Monster. :D Title: Re: Frame Plugs (Advice) Post by: Bill in OKC on December 02, 2009, 08:55:22 PM I posted a pic in the German and Italian machines thread. It is an '84 M491, not a turbo.
