Title: Major Tail CHOP, minimalist back end. Post by: silas on December 02, 2009, 01:01:57 PM Gone w/ the fugly DOT rear beer trey. ...
Thought I'd post my bike's rear end since it is cleaner than most. Here are a few shots I just took. I bought it this way, mostly. I mounted the blinkers w/ small plate brackets I made & installed a Harley license light to help w/ the cops. The seat lock was sawed off along w/ the end of the frame rails. Mega tail chop. I love the way it looks. The seat latch is now released by a pull cord that is looped & sticks out on the left side. Nothing hangs below the frame rails on the back end. You can see where the frame was touched up black where the lock was to keep it from rusting. This is a drastic alternative to the lic. plate bracket I have for sale. I'm told by the local cops it is not quite legal but sev. of them said they wouldn't stop me as long as they can see my license plate (which is just higher than the back tire, so hopefully they can). They didn't want to vouch for other jurisdictions. I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to do. I have no pics of the lic. plate bracket, it is thin sheet aluminum, bent a few times. My plan is (one of these winters) to saw off the additional brackets back there for the side panels, old beer trey, etc & powdercoat the frame the same army green as the motor's side cases. It's a '98. Thought I'd post my bike's rear end since it is cleaner than most. Well your tank certainly isn't cleaner than most. Oh, and I can't wait for this sh*t storm. Not a bad looking bike, I like it.
Most chops seem pretty similar to that to me. This is a massive chop: (http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff217/ducatl/rat1.jpg?t=1259803250) ;D Edit: also, may I suggest an integrated tail light? Title: Re: Major Tail CHOP, minimalist back end. Post by: tilt on December 02, 2009, 03:27:24 PM is that a carbon fiber tank or did the previous owner take steel wool to it?

Post by: scott_araujo on December 02, 2009, 09:00:09 PM Major or not it still looks good and clean. I've got the later ST style frame and have been thinking of mounting my plate like that, really cleans up the back. I haven't in part for the reasons you mentioned, probably not entirely visible and/or legal. And I'm lazy. I was also looking at those brackets to mount it off the rear axle.

We'll see, almost time to put the bike up for the winter and start playing. 36 degrees is tough to ride to work in these days. Scott Title: Re: Major Tail CHOP, minimalist back end. The seat latch is now released by a pull cord that is looped & sticks out on the left side. Big deal, that's how everybody does the old style Monsters. That's exactly how mine is done. License plate hangs down so I'm legal everywhere, and that's it. Mega tail chop. Hardly. My plan is (one of these winters) to saw off the additional brackets back there for the side panels, old beer trey, etc & powdercoat the frame the same army green as the motor's side cases. The OP and Moike's bike seem to have a similar industrial paint theme. Title: Re: Major Tail CHOP, minimalist back end. Post by: Spidey on December 03, 2009, 08:01:55 AM The OP and Moike's bike seem to have a similar industrial paint theme. Are the horns as loud as they look? Title: Re: Major Tail CHOP, minimalist back end. Post by: scott_araujo on December 03, 2009, 08:44:37 AM That is an awesome place to tuck those horns. And if those are the ones I'm thinking of they're loud as hell.

If you flamed, your (bike's) ASS MUST BE POSTED NOW ! haha By the way, it was misting heavy here in ATL at the time of my photos, wiped the tank off 2 mins before the photos! Finally found time to ride today, 225 mi, 35 degrees, hwys 9, 19, 180, 129 (THE (short) loop for locals that know these roads)...daamn forgot my glove liners...got to ride a 999 for the 1st time today though.... The sound is more impressive then the looks IMO. It sounds like I have a lil sup'n sup'n. Little do they know. But, be prepared cause opening up the ass end brings on an entirely new line of shit to spend money on. I am gonna powercoat the swingarm sometime soon and I am thinking about taking the entire bike down to also have the frame coated after cutting the passenger pegs and other little bits that are hanging off of it.
