Title: DP ECU Compatibility: S4 and S4R
Post by: jagstang on May 27, 2008, 09:45:22 PM
I'm looking at buying a used DP ECU off an S4 Foggy for use on my 04 S4R.  AFAIK, the ECUs are the same between the two bikes, just with different maps.  So would a S4 map be that far off an S4R?  Also, what issues would there be with it being installed previously with regard to the immoblizer and such?

Thanks!
-Nick

IMO, at best, it would run very lean, just due to the difference in displacement.

I think you're SOL due to the immobilizer anyway.

there's not much difference in fuel maps afaik - a s4 ecu will run a st4s quite happily i'm told.  i would think it'd want some more fuel tho depending on mods.  but if it's an '01 spec ecu it will only run one of the fans and won't run with the stand down.  get the '02 spec ecu.

Brad's got a *lot* more experience than I, so there you go.

It's an 02, so I'd guessed it was compatible, but I'm not sure about moving it from one bike to another.  Doesn't it get reprogrammed with the bike's serial number from the first bike it's installed on?

I've had *zero* success swapping other ECUs onto my S4, the immobilizer stopped it every time.

Perhaps the DP ECU is not so picky, but IIRC, I tried putting a non-virgin DP ECU on my bike, and it didn't work.
But that was quite a while ago, and I may not be remembering correctly.
