Title: Fabing exhaust, Supplies ?
Post by: Case S2R on December 08, 2009, 03:52:41 PM
I am considering fabricating a custom exhaust for my S2R1K, at the moment I am considering 6/4 Ti.  Those that have made their own exhaust, is there a place you prefer to purchase hardware or are you fabricating everything?

Thanks in advance

What type of hardware are you looking for exactly?

I'm unsure of what you are asking, you want a supplier for Ti?  You can check with burnsstainless.com, they used to carry Ti tube and some bends.  Hard to find stuff (in exhaust sizes), hard to weld, etc.

I'd stick with some thin-wall stainless personally (.049/18 gauge)

Thanks for the reply's

Specifically what I am looking for are connecting springs and the collar where the exhaust bolts to the head.

Burns has the springs (in stainless), but I doubt anyone has the flanges on the shelf....will need to be drawn and made.

If you're serious about going all Ti I'd suggest checking eBay regularly, lots of medical/aerospace companies sell their scrap there so you can usually find small amounts of machine quality plate extremely cheap and it would be perfect for getting stuff like that machined.  If you can use CAD it's a pretty simple part to replicate.

Occasionally I work with Ti so I have it sourced from my existing suppliers, It is the small parts that I did not know to purchase or fab.  When I start I will post the results.

Thanks for the help
