Title: Fastenal?
Post by: Michael Moore on December 12, 2009, 08:51:26 PM
Has anyone been to one of these stores? They seem to be like McMaster-Carr, but have local shops:

I'm just wondering if they are good to deal with. I always seem to need metric S/S fasteners, and the local OSH/Ace never has them.

I deal with the on here in Hawaii a lot.
They are great to deal with.
Fastenal is a huge company. Normally, if they don't have what I need they can get it.

I've used the one near me for some loctite...across the street from the former Aftershocks location.  Seemed to have a good selection of stuff for a small looking place.  Definitely pro type items relative to OSH.  No complaints at all!

Around the time I started doing a lot of track days (or maybe it was when I started racing), I ordered like $80 or $100 worth of metric fasteners from boltdepot.com.  I ordered a whole huge assortment with multiples of the common sizes.  I also spent the $ for the uncommon or weird sizes and for button heads and for other types.  It was money sooooooo well spent.  I'm never without fasteners (though I'm starting to run low on some sizes), and I often have on hand that weird size--or close to it--that you'd otherwise have to special order.  I just keep 'em in my toolkit.  That might be overkill if you're just trying to keep up on bike, but if you've got a bunch of bikes and you're at the track a bunch, it's pretty handy.

Fixed it for ya.  [laugh]

That boltdepot.com site looks good. Did you get one of the assortment kits, or just pick out your own stuff?

I picked my own stuff so that I could get a much larger variety.  I figured I wouldn't need 25 of any one size (which is what comes with their assortment), though I mighta ordered 10 or 15 of the two or three most common sizes.  I also ordered a variety of nuts (hee hee) and washers.
