I've always bought used, but i'm thinking of going to a new ride soon and am thinking maybe a new Ducati.  How are dealers when it comes to negotiation of price?  Is the price on Ducs pretty much what the sticker is or is there some wiggle room? What about adding mods from the dealer like a Termi exhaust or other Ducati Perf. parts?

Depends on the model as some are slower movers than others (but right now everyone is hurting so worth a shot no matter).    For bikes that price is what the price is, accessories can be a great deal.    Free install and 15+% off on stuff isn't difficult.

you can also probably get a better deal  in the winter... versus the summer.

From what most dealers will tell you is they don't make much on new bike sales ?? I've been buying used & new & over the last 10 years what I have found out is the best deal is a "used"  bike with super low miles this only works if you have a lot of patience. I just got my GF her dream bike for 3.5K less than the best OTD price any dealer in CA. would do. The bike had less than 1000 miles on it, 2 oil changes done at a Duc dealer, bike still has full fac. warr. & not a scratch on it. Not sure what model your looking at or where your located but in CA. there seems to be a lot of people who buy a new Duc. & put them up for sale within a few months after buying them. Unless there's a model change your after there are huge money saving advantages to buying from a private party who wants to sell there "new" bike. The last new bikes I bought were an 03 Aprilia Tuono very happy, 06 750 GXSR not happy, 08 450 YZF happy only cause the dealer sold it for 100 over cost. Theres too many used bikes to list but over all I'm much happier buyig used bikes.

You could also see if anyone had any old model year leftovers.  My local duc shop let go a new left over 08 S2R1K fairly cheap this summer.

That's what I did in early '09 to get my '08 695.  The dealer sold it to me for KBB value of an '07 695 (~$7k)

How far below MSRP can they go on an '09 M1100 or HY1100S? Those seem to be my best long-term options.

Probably not much since they are new bikes.  But I would think you would be able to find one of those considering the people who bought a M or a HY and decided to upgrade to the SF.  If you find a used one with low miles, that could be the ticket to major $$$ savings.

They wont deal off the MSRP. Your best find is going to be a hold over from the previous year. Those will be less than MSRP.

Make the deal where you can, Freight and Setup fees. They can discount those since they set up those pricing structures. F&S can some times run $800 or more.

all they can say is no.  the more of those you get the more likely you'll get the price you want, granted at different dealers

Yea, I agree.  Now is the time to go in and hold your guns.  Buy a BIke.  MSRP is most people's reality, so go for better, but if you don't get it, still ride the helloutait.

My advice is to go into the store with a final figure (pricewise) in your mind and don't be afraid to walk, that's the one thing that sales men hate,  [bang] oh yeh when you've almost done the deal don't forget to ask what discount that you will get off accessories because thats important for future modding  ;) ;) allways work's for me  [thumbsup]
