Title: Qld trials unmarked police bikes
Post by: Vanman on December 14, 2009, 05:45:03 AM
Just a quick heads up to any Qld riders.

Sunday Mail (QLD), 06-12-2009, NEWS
UNMARKED police bikes will hit the state's roads from next month as the latest weapon in the battle against road carnage. Two powerful motorcycles with hidden lights and siren would be trialled on the roads in southeast Queensland during the January holidays if this trail is successful more unmarked bikes will be put on the road .

I saw a bunch of fluro police cars on the TV news, but the new bikes seem a tad more hush hush.    An unconfirmed source indicates that the bikes may be a Black GSXR 1000 K9 and an S3 triumph 1050.

So don't go getting suckered into doing something naughty.

The same thing has happened here in Sth OZ. Down my way there's a Blue Beemer and a black Honda (I think) getting around the place.
I know of a couple of guys who have been busted for speeding by the Blue beemer cop.

It's like.......

Spys infiltrating the motorcycle world

whether it's a positive for road safety or not, time will tell I suppose.

Guess it was only a matter of time really.
We have had unmarked cars on the roads for years.
I am sure the trial will be hailed a success and we'll see many of the Countries  [leo] adopting the
same road safe enforcement ideas.

interesting, the coppers are playing schoolyard rules so all's fair i guess. problem is, some of those buggers can really ride so giving them a proper bike instead of those huge pan american hondas or beemers is going to make it awfully difficult to give em the slip! i'm buying a radar detector for the car and only riding my bike on back roads, glorious, nebo and mee are off limits, cause that's where they will be for sure!

Yep, we've had the "Q" bikes here off and on for years (Mainly summer, only the fair weather riders, and the time of year for the unlicenced? [roll] )

Primarily Beemers but have been known to use Honda Blades. There were a few of the undercover BMW's at the GP this year!  [leo]

I got pulled over by a boring brown BMW along the GOR about 3 years ago. Only had a couple of lil flashing lights under the tail lights. I must have passed the attitude test 'cos he didn't seem concerned when I pulled out my rego label from under the pillion seat.

well the sneaky bastards up here have been using cars like red commodore utes going 20 kph below the limit to encourage an overtaking maneuver then videotaping the offence (unbroken line). i got a call stating a member of the public had complained about my riding and would i come down to the station to discuss it, when i got there they showed me in the video and told me there would be a ticket in the mail. there was, and that was nearly 4 years ago. i still hold a grudge, and still consider it entrapment. take care out there boys and girls.

Yeah we've had a series of XR6, HSV utes down here on the Mornington Peninsula doing the stoplight rev thing and then busting yer chops when you respond.  [evil] [roll] [leo]

Entrapment?? You betcha!!  [roll] :o

Sigh.  Isn't that the saddest thing too.

On one hand you have the all's fair arguement.  And that has merit. If your not misbehaving its no drama.   However just why do they need a black fully blinged H3 and a VW jetta.    Surely our underfunded forces could have found something less exotic to be a rolling roadblock?

At the end of the day, it depends entirely on what the police force is trying to achieve. Safer roads.. or More Fines.   The only reason to go unmarked is people behave when they know cops are around, which makes them harder to fine.   So clearly the emphasis here is on fines, not safety.     That, I find objectionable.

Heaven forbid they might avail themselves of something usefull, like putting out warning markers for washouts and rockpiles on the road.  Wheres the profit in that?

last weekend I lost it....first time on the bike......road into town (bout ten minutes) to find my exit closed...did they mark it the night before, no! did they mark it one exit before, no! instead they put you onto a 3km long maintenance road (todd road) with no exits...then back over the bolte bridge then down to williamstown to do a u turn, back over the bridge again....then they've closed the other side...so it's the next turn off and that takes we east of the city by another 3 km's...no u turns permitted....at this point the journey is now 40 minutes and I'm so frickin angry there is screaming, tears and I desire to go to vicroads and burn it down...we're meant to be driving safely yet with the poor signage, no signage, the poor condition of the 2 working lanes (the rubble and debris was amazing) and the complete lack of planning Vicroads endangers the public...where's their fine????

I seriously wanted to go into a police station and explain....but some poor copper doesn't need this loony ranting about

I'm expecting the speeding fine to arrive in the mail any day now, I lost my cool....but I was driven to it by the biggest bunch of careless idiots that our taxes support.

PS: for Sydney guys, imagine trying to enter the city by the north and then get taken over the bridge (twice) and then down to parramatta just to get to the CBD. Your 8 minute journey is now 40.

Ita,

my riding starts tomorrow, the 'environmental building' that I work in just opened it's bike parking facility....just be thankfull your buddies didn't have this raving lunatic walk in claiming he wanted vicroads charged with obstruction, endangerment, lack or road-worthiness in the roads, coming 'equipped to bungle' (as evidence of idiots where found at the scene).

Come on no cop bashing they are just doin they job arnt they , But the law makers shouldnt hide behind the speed kills rubbish ,as unmarked cars and bikes dont stop people speeding until its too late so people will still be in danger a marked car and bike will slow everyone down but wont make as much money ......

I don't know who you are, but using someone else's account is a forum offence, when Paul finds out who you are and what you've been saying, he's going to kick your arse!!!!

thanks spider, didn't take long for the attitude to be brought out of retirement though, went for a ride over nebo this morning and the traffic nazi's had a FG XR6 turbo, white, unmarked and not only was he going about 30 kmh under the posted speed, he moved two wheels into the dirt and tried to wave me past on an unbroken white line! that's just dirty pool in my book!

paul.
p.s, i stand by my previous statement, shame the decent ones are few and far between, especially in traffic!

true bloke, that's not good! would have pissed them off no end that you didn't fall for it, so there's readsons to be happy!

and on with the positives.....I read you've been having to adjust your ride height...so you've obviously had a growth spurt and got a bit taller too ;)

funny bastard! [laugh]
the front was a little firm and i couldn't get right to the edge of the front tyre, so with the front forks 7mm through, i have gone a further 3mm to a total of 10mm, wound the preload off 1 turn and backed the compression off 2 clicks. with my tell tale on the fork leg i'm now getting within 10 to 15mm of the bottom of the slider so i added a huge 3mm of rear ride height to compensate for the flatter profile rear tyre i prefer compared to the rounder profile of the front.
it now handles NIIIIIIIIIICE! [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [moto]

Talk about a pointless exercise, in a very short portion of road yesterday, we had a Cop on a bike with a Radar, less than 2 k's away we had the the Speed Camera van and then about 3k's after that, we had another Radar trap.

Sad part is I was stuck behind a guy in a Ute and he went past all 3 of these with his Mobile phone glued to his Ear and not once did they pull him over.

I see this guy all the time (he lives a couple of streets away from me) and he is always on that damned phone! He has driven up on a traffic island, he has driven along 20k's below the speed limit while veering all over the road. And yet when I rang the Cops and reported him (he nearly ran into me at a set of lights near my place the other day because he was chatting away on the phone) they said there was nothing they could do.  [roll]

I have given up on the (Traffic) Cops and the Politicans, they are all Retards

What!  [bang] Don't you have the mobile phone laws other states have.  They've just tightened them here in Vic so that even if the phone is just sitting in your lap it's an offence.

But have to agree with you - I see lots of people using them whilst driving but don't know of anyone that's ever been fined for it.
