Title: Exhaust preferences
Post by: grunte on December 14, 2009, 11:18:32 AM
I will be getting pipes for my 08 S2r1k next year (so I'm starting to save now).  I don't want the same as everyone else has (termis, Arrow, Leo vance (or vince)).  I don't I like the look of boom tubes and I like the look of the looks of both pipes on the same side of the bike - right side.

Do any of you DMF'ers (hehe) have suggestions for me?

Thanks!

I like the low mount shotgun termi's they made for a while, but everyone here boo-hoo's them because they block the wheel.

not sure who else make shotgun cans... sil, maybe?

you could talk to a custom shop in your area and do some one-off work  [thumbsup]

There's a cool set of Fresco megaphones available on MotoWheels.. I always liked those as far as shotgun style cans go.
everyone has the same stuff because there really aren't that many exhaust manufacturers out there, especially for our bikes...

Fresco Full System (http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myproducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=1204%7CMonster&productID=5562&showDetail=1&categoryID=671)
They have slip-ons too...

I've seen and heard the Fresco  [thumbsup]

I have been thinking about the quat-d ex box myself , I like the look and sound

I am looking at trying to get a set of Sil-Moto's. They make a set of high mount-left-right in round. I had some on my 00' and was quite happy. Or maybe I'll get someone to custom make me some like the ones by "showyomoto". Those look sick, but I'm afraid they'd be too loud.

Have you considered chopping your stock cans and airbox and getting the FatDuc O2 manipulator?

love my zards.
they sound so incredible.. even on just my 800.
keep an eye open man, i picked mine up for $650 used off of someone in your area.
wouldn't fit a 1000 though...

I have never seen another Monster here with the Akro system, not even low mounts.

Would definitely been my choice if this bike didn't come with what's on it.

mattyvas, how do you like the Akra full system? How has the motor been tuned for it? It looks to be just the ticket: light, durable, plenty of power claimed and I imagine a nice sound.

Minor threadjack, Mattyvas, what taillight is that?

I have the low mount SIL megaphones on mine. I saw a pic of them on an S2 and they looked cool in the singlesided design. Not sure I they ever marketed them?

For your bike though, I'd snatch up a shortie Termi pipe. Dave had one up at Ducati Seattle. Not sure the cost but shouldn't be that much. Opens up the SSS nicely though! Don't go with Quad.

the short termi is pricey but it does sound good.  My wife has it on her bike, luckily I snagged them here for half the cost.

My suggestions? Arrows

Thanks for all your suggestions, I will look at them all.

I like the look of the Akro but on their site it only lists exhausts for the S4 and S4Rs...nothing for my S2R1k.
My brother in law has Mivv on his 696....I dont like the look, or the sound (or the smell)  They are far too  loud (he took out the decible killers) and when he hammers on the bike and your riding behind,,,the smell of exhaust is overwhelming.
My sister in law has SIL on her 620 and they sound and look great...but I want something that nobody in my area has.

My suggestions? Arrows

+1  Termis are nice but over-priced in my opinion.  My full Arrows cost about $1150 and combined with the FatDuc O2 manipulator,  are awesome.

I love the Akro system, no-one else here has one.
The bike was tuned by one of Sydney's if not Australia's best dyno tuners about three yrs ago when it
was in ownership of my friend who I bought it off.
It has not been touched since, hasn't missed a beat, done plenty of track days and long days touring.

The sound is wicked, but it really doesn't start to be heard until far beyond any legal road speeds.

HackerS2r to answer your question it's from Omnia Racing in Italy.
I have to talk to them at them moment as I've lost two LED's now.
But the light is bright and cool as it changes the shape of the tail altogether.

Thanks mattyvas for the reply. I guess that was what I wanted to hear. Any more details on the tune (PC III? Nemesis? DP ECU?) would be welcome if you have them.

I know this is a desmodue thread but the title doesn't say so, hence I imagine it is picking up some Testa readers also.

I always like the akrapovic systems, minus the logo.

Maybe that's just me.

There's a fellow selling a Fresco full titanium system for an S2R1k in the Parts For Sale section right now.

It has a Ducati Corse ECU in it.
Nemesis is too new here, I've thought about adding a PC III but I think it will compromise the tune.
I can live with it in town for what it does when I am on the fun roads.

+1.  Smaller and less expensive than most but look like good quality.  The small size also means they are a bit louder.  A guy at the local Ducati dealer has a set on his Aprilia 1000.  Even with the DB killers it's kinda loud.  He says without the db killers it's too loud for him.

Ok, I have to ask.  Is that a photoshop or real ear plugs?  We have to wear ear plugs where I work and those are just too cool looking.  I got some custom molded ones at VIR in 2008, but they got lost and the company wasn't there for AMA this year.  Anyway, are those just ear buds for ipod with Duc stickers photoshopped or what?

I just did a google image search for Ducati Ear Plugs.
But.......
They were being done through Newport Ducati back in October as a special for their customers.
The ear plugs are from here. www.ultimateears.com (http://)
Not cheap items but then your hearing is hard to replace.

I know you said you didn't want Arrows, but I've always loved they way they look on the S2R bikes.  If it was me I would keep my eyes open for a used Arrow system.  I also like the high mounted Marvings and TAftonomos's custom set of megaphones.
