Title: new headlights..
Post by: deepak8612 on December 14, 2009, 01:06:22 PM
Im tired of the old headlights on my 695. They are still stock, while the rest of the bike is pretty much completely custom. Thoughts/pictures and websites where I can find some nice headlights?   [beer]

I feel like I've posted these pics a lot lately, but I guess I am kinda pleased with how it turned out. This light is off a KTM 990, with brackets made by Loren at Ducshop.

Going to need a zoomed out picture for the full effect of the duke headlight.

I like the round headlight since that's part of this bike's aesthetic. I did not however think it need to look so old school as to have the diffuser built into the lens. So, as featured above from the Desmoworld sight, I got the Clear-Glass headlight from Desmoworld and had the ring, like the stock ring, powdercoated black. Here's the results:

[thumbsup]
This is the best one for an update to the original Monster aesthetic IMO.

Here's a thread showing brownwhales superduke headlight, has some zoomed out photos of a similar headlight mockup.  This is the route I am going with as well after the holidays.

I currently have a dual headlight setup, very large at 5 3/4" per lens.  Got them here:

If they had been 5" in diameter, they would have been perfect.  Definitely achieved the retro cafe style that I was going for, now it's time for something new.

Is there anywhere to order beside that website? That's really nice for about $105 before shipping.

That's where I got mine. I did it all by email once I discovered their part online. Communication was easy and I only speak English and broken Spanish

You should be pleased.  Very good craftsmanship on those mounts.  Your headlight is more upright than the mercenary monster's.  I'd guess either one bike is aimed high, one aimed low or there is a wide range of adjustment built in to the KTM headlight.

I noticed that as well re: the headlight angle, I'd love for someone to chime in on this.

has anyone taken the standard headlight bucket, gotten just a piece of glas not refracted, and then put inside the bucket 1 or 2 of the xenon lights in it?

reason is that of course you won't get the entire bucket to light up, but when the thing is standing still in pictures, it will still have the "classic" look of the old headlight for aesthetics, but will have the much better lighting from xenons inside.

like when you look at cars today, bmw you see the headlight openings are much much bigger than the actual xenon bulbs/containers inside the headlight.

+1 I think I might try this look on my bike. Going through some overhaul now. New rearsets, clips on. thinking about new instrument panel and new headlights.

Mercenary Monster's headlight is from a superduke, mine is from a 990 Adventure. They are similar, but it may explain why his has a slightly upturned look.

Well that could totally be it, I didn't realize they were from different models.  Very cool mod either way.

I feel like we thread jacked, sorry!

Another option, if you like the Ducati Streetfighter look...
is the Urban headlight kit, not cheap at $460 I think but very nice :D
