I have not been able to ride my 04 S4R for the last 4 months or so due to a knee surgery. I finally rode it for the first time a few days ago for about an hour ride. When I got back I noticed a few drops of oil coming out of the large bolt (Swingarm mount?) holding on the left rearset and runing down the rearset, which is completely new. I could not find oil any where else around the area. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Left huh? Had any issues with a mushy clutch? A while back, I had what I though originally was an oil leak, but it was a small leak from my clutch slave. It ran down, picked up some grime and collected by that same bolt.
Later on, I did have an oil leak. The seal between the main case and the alternator cover had given up, right by where the clutch slave mounts and was weeping oil. I noticed a bunch of gunk on the under side of my case, well forward of where the leak was - so I initially thought it was a valve cover, since I'd just have a valve service. But, it turned out that leak was near the back, and the oil was tracking down past the output shaft, down along the case seam and then managing to spread forward.
So you might start looking around your clutch slave, is what I'm saying.
Also, a wash and dry to clean off the old stuff followed by a hit with a spray powder (like Deodorant) is a tried a true way to find weepy oil leaks.
