Title: Texas Moto License
Post by: 64duc on May 28, 2008, 08:31:20 AM
Okay, so when I move from Florida to Texas in a few months, will they make me take a new road test?
Do they even have a road test? Whats the skinny?

first question, where in texas are you moving to?  and now for my answers.  i know for a fact that if you take the msf you dont have to take the test at the dps office.  its $150 last time i checked and it gives you a insurance discount so why not, right?  and i just looked at the txdot website and found this link (http://"http://www.dot.state.tx.us/services/vehicle_titles_and_registration/driver_licenses.htm") and this link (http://"http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/movingtotexas.htm") about drivers licenses in texas.  the second link has a link to the motorcycle handbook at the bottom.

iirc, you'll only have to take the written.

correct, the MSF gives you a road test waiver.  Take the written in the morning too so in case you're hungover or something and miss a couple questions the line should be short and they might let you redo it right away...  [drink]

you also get the insurance discount and depending who you get the course from a discount at cycle gear.

If you don't want to deal with all that just go do the road test and written all in one day.  easy stuff anyways,  unless you're hungover and umm miss a couple questions on the test and have to redo it...  in case i didn't mention that part yet.

I took the MSF in AZ in '97.  Transfered my motorcycle endorsement from AZ to MI to AZ to FL to WA and I would expect to transfer it to TX.

Will I actually have to take a friggen test too?!

Lame!   [roll]

If you do have to take the riding test, you have to also provide a car/truck AND a driver to haul the DPS person who'll be observing you while you ride.

I would then deduce that Texas has one of the highest percentages of unlicensed riders in the nation  [bang]

Wow. This totally sucks if you have to take the test... I mean... first there's the hassle... but the real problem is the questions!!! How in the hell are you supposed to remember all that stuff??!!??

Arkansas -> New Mexico -> Arizona. Never had to do anything to transfer. All I had to do was be really obnoxious and remind them over and over not to leave off my motorcycle endorsement.
