Title: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: Adamm0621 on December 20, 2009, 08:28:59 AM I'm looking at picking one of these up in the near future. I just moved to Kentucky, and one of the first things I did was to drive over to the dealership in Louisville. I was wondering if anyone knew of any differences between the 09 and the 2010 model. Also, if anyone has any previous experience with the Commonwealth dealership I would appreciate the input.
I just got my year-end bonus and have been looking to purchase a 696 dark since they came out over a year ago. It may not be under the tree for Christmas but it'll be in the garage not long after the New Year. Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: Duckintime on December 20, 2009, 08:34:28 AM Since the bike just came out, I think the only difference might be color choices. You could go to the dealer and look at the brochure for the 2010 and compare.

Post by: sbrguy on December 20, 2009, 09:14:55 AM dealer told me the main difference is colors and the optional ABS brakes. which i think is a great option and makes it worth it for a 2010 that alone. ABS may not be needed all the time but from friends that have a BMW with ABS its great if you have an emergency stop or you are riding in less than perfect conditions.

Post by: Raux on December 20, 2009, 11:20:04 AM the optional colors are just that options and cost more. the only stock colors are red, white and black.
i had heard the abs computer uses some fuel tank space, so i would check fuel capacity, personally never confirmed that. Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: Duckintime on December 20, 2009, 12:33:20 PM I would test drive the ABS and non ABS.. alot of folks just dont care for the feel of it on their bikes- regardless of make
Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: muskrat on December 20, 2009, 03:12:25 PM growing up on dirt bikes I'll take non ABS. been in several situations where I tasted a turd that came from my posterior but always feel in better control sliding the rear wheel. I may be an idiot but the feel is important to me and seriously the price can be used towards some racket making exhaust.
good luck on your hunt. Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: kopfjäger on December 20, 2009, 04:18:20 PM I heard they fixed the thermometer. :D
Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: z0mb1e_DUC on December 21, 2009, 04:47:21 AM 3.5gal(ABS) vs 3.8gal
I suppose the .3gal won't make that much of a difference, unless they didn't adjust the Low Fuel Light accordingly. :o Ride both, if possible, then decide. Me, I'm not adding anything that's gonna give the bike a smaller tank. Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: MonsterMan1036 on December 21, 2009, 05:13:09 AM Can't help you on the 696 but Commonwealth is a great dealership. Ed and the entire staff there are a great bunch of people. My father and I drive a little over 2hr to purchase and have our bikes serviced there.
Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: Adamm0621 on December 21, 2009, 07:10:34 AM All of the posts have been great so far. My first bike was a silver 99 M750, I spent about two and a half years in Korea, and just got back stateside in March. I've been dreaming of Monsters since last June and I finally have the capital to make it happen. The only thing I haven't decided yet is if I want to put the CF Termis on when I pick the bike up, or if I'm going to wait a few months.
The mods I already have planned are a tail chop, 14 tooth front sprocket, frame sliders, and the upgraded exhaust. Fairly standard mods, but I'll move on from there. I wouldn't mind some bar end mirrors as well. Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: stopintime on December 21, 2009, 08:44:13 AM Sounds like a good plan [thumbsup]
If you hold the exhaust mod a while, you might enjoy the improvement even more when it's there. Just a thought... Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: ArguZ on December 21, 2009, 09:43:18 AM The only mod I want on my 695 is ABS.
Rain, sand, slippery walkways...there are only pros for it. Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: z0mb1e_DUC on December 21, 2009, 12:55:29 PM I'll go the other way Stopintime...
If you've got the coin, get the Termi's up front. They won't be cheaper later. Test ride one without, you'll see why. There's a bit of a hole around 4k. With the Termi's though, it's a whole other beast. Never mind the exhaust note, it makes the bike so much more rideable because of the DP ECU's different map. Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: Jimmy Ducati on December 21, 2009, 05:04:33 PM The exhaust heat shields are now different, the engine case is different, the change can really be seen at the oil filter. They also changed wheel makers, they look the same, but I have to assume now a cheaper version.

Post by: Adamm0621 on December 23, 2009, 07:18:09 AM So I drove up to Commonwealth Motorcycles in Louisville yesterday and I hammered out everything except for the down payment which I will drop off a few days after Christmas. I'll be purchasing a 2010 Ducati Monster 696 Dark, without the ABS. Before pickup they will put on the CF Termis, the 14 tooth front sprocket, frame sliders, and take care of the tail chop for me. I'm also ordering a new helmet ($360), and a leather jacket ($590).
For everything mentioned above, as well as tax, title, license and registration, I've been quoted $12,126.26 out the door. That includes all mods and gear. I was quoted $12,600 in Texas for a 2009 without the tail chop, helmet, and jacket so I think I'm getting a pretty good deal. Any thoughts? Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: sbrguy on December 23, 2009, 09:14:08 AM see if they have an m1100 in stock and get that it might work out well for you not much more and it has a dry clutch also.
Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: stopintime on December 23, 2009, 09:30:35 AM I tried, but I can't think of a better Christmas gift for one self [thumbsup]
Are you looking forward to getting it under you? (stupid question, no need to answer [cheeky]) Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: Adamm0621 on December 23, 2009, 02:36:51 PM The 1100 might be too much bike for me. I think the 696 will work better for the time being, and if I need anything bigger in a few years, I'll just buy a second Ducati. [moto]
Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: Statler on December 23, 2009, 04:09:41 PM down payment? as in financing?

Post by: Adamm0621 on December 24, 2009, 05:57:42 AM I could buy it outright, but I just moved and would like to spend some of the extra capital buying some new furniture, etc. Besides, my wife and I are about to start trying for a second kid and it never hurts to have a little extra set aside.
Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: zenjim on December 24, 2009, 07:59:59 AM I'm still reeling from "year end bonus"
You're a lucky man, I'm watching people getting laid off one and two weeks before Christmas. Meanwhile the executives take trips, redecorate and piss away money like it's going out of style. Enjoy the new bike and happy holidays! Title: Re: 2010 Monster 696... Post by: justinrhenry on December 24, 2009, 12:43:51 PM reeling? really? just because someone got a bonus? should we string him up and disburse his bonus to the less fortunate in the form of a bail out or government sponsored medical insurance?

It was a re-enlistment bonus, but I decided to break it down to laymen's terms for non-military folk. As for the economy, there's no recession in the Army :P
