I thought something like that might have happened when I got my bill last week and my premium is $150 less than it was last year  :)

...did you use foremost?

i have geico and my rarte is pretty good as it is...it actually went down almost by 30% from last year...i figure its because the bikes are a year older and the value is less :( or :)

Yes I have Foremost...I had originally thought the price reduction was because of the bike being another year older and a clean first year with them as my carrier, but after your post and link I'm thinking that must be the reason.  Either way...I'm not complaining  :)

Well, I just made the switch. I had Geico, and asked them to look into the classification change. They still list the GT1000 as a sport bike. So, I got a quote with Foremost. I saved over $200 a year switching to Foremost with the same coverage.

I asked about their experience and this is what I got: The parent company of Foremost is Farmers Insurance. Foremost is a division that specializes only in motorcycles and recreational vehicles. The guy said the adjusters that come out only do motorcycles and that they have bikes right in the building's garage for training.

Clipped from the original announcement:

DUCATI AND FOREMOST LOWER INSURANCE RATES
Cupertino, CA (April 28th, 2008) - Ducati North America and Foremost Insurance are proud to announce that lower insurance rates are now available on several families of Ducati models. Announced in September 2007, the partnership with Ducati and Foremost has resulted in a number of benefits for Ducati owners and DOC Club members.  The benefits include special discounts, dedicated motorcycle friendly customer service, as well as a unique partnership with the Pegram Racing Ducati Team.  Ducati North America has now been able to communicate directly with Foremost underwriters to redefine how Ducati motorcycles should be categorized and rated. Ducati owners who ride Hypermotards, Monsters and Sport Classic’s can now take advantage of these new reduced pricing structures.Foremost Insurance now classifies the Hypermotard family as a “Dual-Sport”, and the Monster and SportClassic families have been moved to the “Standard” segment.  These motorcycles were previously grouped into the “Performance” classification, which normally carries higher premiums.Foremost also offers discounts for clean driving records and multiple unit owner discounts.   For more information including quotes, please visit www.ducatiforemost.com.

I just went with Foremost a couple months ago for the S2R1k. By far the lowest price I have found. And since they are part of Farmer's, I feel confident they will provide good customer service when I need it...

just called them and will likely switch give the lower pricing...one thing that I found odd was that they asked what I thought the bike would be worth if I sold it....don't they usually have a table they go to instead of asking the owner?

Is there a penalty with your current insurer if you drop them for a lower rate from someone else?

I'm pretty sure that is illegal....

Nope.  No penalty

why?

I was talking about the fee for canceling. I don't know why I think it's illegal, but I seem to remember hearing that it was...

There's no fees to cancel for me w/ Dairyland.  The only potential catch I can see is if someone has a lot of points and/or accident and is effectively "uninsurable", but the law prevents the current insurer to drop coverage....no sure if I can clear...Some states prevent insurance companies from dropping a customer who has developed poor driving record.  If that person voluntarily cancels policy before getting Foremost locked it, then there is a possibility of SNAFU.

A broker at Foremost told me about this last october. I posted about it on TOB.
I still got a better rate through my private agent though. Foremost wants ~$950/yr for full coverages. I'm at $425 now through my agent who is using progressive.

I checked the rates for the Hyper with Dairyland, and they were through the freaken' roof. Almost 6x what I pay to insure the 695.

Switched today.
$311 for the year. :D
Full Coverage/ $250 deductible/ 2003 M1000S/ 37/ Single/ Clean record/ Great credit/ 16 yrs Moto Exp./ Texas rural.

Only thing I waved was personal medical stuff. I have good medical at work.
Plus those coverages are ludicrously low payouts anyway. Especially for the amount they increase your policy. [roll]

I wasn't carrying Full with Geico, but their quote today for the same coverage was over $600.

The coverage at Foremost also includes Towing, Roadside assistance and Trip interruption coverage.
*edit* They also include Safety Apparel coverage, and you can add Aftermarket/Optional Parts coverage.

I'm going to check it out.  There was a Foremost booth set up at the Ducati compound in SLC last week and he told me about the reclassification.  Currently I have my bikes with Bikeline, which is a BMW-MOA endorsed company.  (Can't recommend them)

F650-$250/yr
Triumph ST-$248/yr.
'99 Monster-Nine hundred frickin-fifty a year.  For a standard!  I couldn't believe it.

I went ahead and renewed, with the thought that I'd a) look into adding them to the GF's car policy, b) getting a GEICO policy.

I think I'll get with Foremost first.

I just added our project bike (1979 KZ400) to my insurance (Safeco), and to my surprise, it cost me -$11!  That's right, I got money back. ;D

Turns out the multi-vehicle discount on the Duc more than made up for the insurance premium on the Kawi. [thumbsup]  I should have insured when we first picked it up.

Foremost was pretty pricey compared to my current coverage.  Interesting to see that its cheaper for some folks...

I wish you could get a quote online with them, instead of having to call them  >:(

I actually did get a quote online...you just fill out the forms and they email you a quote.  The only prob was I didn't know my current coverage, so after calling Geico to see if they showed a new classification for my bike (they didn't) I had them give me my coverage limits/deductible, and then called Foremost to do the deal.  Biggest hassle with Foremost: faxing them my Intermediate Riders Course certificate for a little more discount.

I switched from Progressive today. Same coverages (actually slightly better) and my rate dropped from $700/yr to $350/yr. Not half bad.

I switched to Foremost from State Farm awhile back, &, with the same coverage, my rates dropped, plus Foremost offered more coverage for "extras".
The insurance on the Paul Smart did drop dramatically when I renewed, & it was nothing I changed.
Insuring the 1098, on the other hand... :P

So, what do you folks with a number of years under your riding belt recommend for coverage?  Not the company but the actual coverage.  I don't have much experience with insurance on motos.

A high level of under/uninsured motorist coverage and FULL tort.

Don't limit your ability to sue.  If you don't have it and need it you're screwed.  Period.

Full tort doesn't cost much extra either.

Title: Re: Lower Insurance rates for Ducati
Post by: NAKID on June 12, 2008, 03:29:23 PM
What's Full Tort?

Title: Re: Lower Insurance rates for Ducati
Post by: Monsterlover on June 13, 2008, 04:09:06 AM
Limited Tort= your ability to sue is limited if someone blasts you

Full tort= your ability to sue is full throttle!

I was in a car accident about 15 years ago that resulted in hearing damage from the airbag going off.  It was 100% the other driver's fault.  I was unable to go after them because I had the limited tort option at the time.

If I'd had full tort I could have got some money out of it (actually a good sum of money) and, although that can't make up for hearing loss (I was 18 when this happened) it would have made life a little easier.

Annoyed likewise.

Shopper's tip: Providing a Social Security number is absolutely NOT required to get insurance in California, and they are not allowed to deny you coverage by witholding this info. By law. Yet Foremost kept insisting I give mine.

No, I'm not hiding behind bad credit. I refuse to give out my SSN.

Anyone ever make a claim with Foremost? Wondering what they're like to deal with when the shit hits the fan.

I have not.  I am taking some comfort that the parentCo is Farmers Ins.

+1

Just did the '99 with them.  $566/year, down from $979 with Markel "Bikeline".  And they let me do "agreed value" without a hassle, argument, or appraisal.  I insured it for $10K.  ;D
(which, to be fair, is less than I have into it.)
