Title: 996 fuel PSI
Post by: LowThudd on December 25, 2009, 05:59:38 PM
I am potentially buying a 01 996 without a tank. I'd like to try and get it to run first. What is the working fuel PSI of the 996? I think I'll get a small electric pump and a gas can and try and start it. I think I even have a 8PSI fuel pump in storage someplace.

I don't remember the pressure off hand, but a lot more than 8 PSI, I think it is around 55-60 PSI plus it needs to be regulated down to 40ish PSI and the excess fuel returned.

Yea, I figured it'd need to be returned. I guess I'll have to find another pump someplace. Where is the regulator located?

Never mind, in the tank. Looked at the parts catalog. Does anybody know if other ie fuel pump assemblies will function in a 996?

Looks like any pre 03 superbike(possibly st2/3/4) pump will work. Correct?

After looking at the 996 pump, my new plan is to use a ford(or similar) intank pump in a gas can to pump to the engine. And a ford pressure regulator(the one I have is at 43 psi) on the outlet from the engine inside the fuel tank. not sure, but it looks like the 996 regulator is post injectors. Sound like it'll work? Total cost @ $20.

all street model ducatis run 3 bar or 43psi fuel pressure.

Good price too. But I just need a way to run the bike before I buy to make sure the engine isn't toast. I'll but the tank after I get the bike, even if it is the wrong color.
