Post by: Yellow Meanie on December 27, 2009, 09:26:56 AM
Went for a ride yesterday with Techno and Fluff.

Here's some pics:

Simon and Eva tagged along in the XR5. Or should I say, blasted along, he drives like he rides  [evil]

Nice.  I don't want to know what Techno is doing in the first photo - looks a bit suss  [cheeky] or his hands are too cold to do up his jacket?

Planning on doing that ride after turismo.

Great pics Dave.
Next ride I'll get some pics of the lot up here on bikes instead of standing beside them.

In the first photo I think I'm zipping my jacket. There's a toilet just out of shot so I'm not doing what it looks like.

Here are my shots. The action ones are a bit IZ_ due to using a compact camera but its easy to carry and get out in a hurry.

This is the climb back up.

This really feels like a remote part of the world. Its as far as you can get into SW Tasmania on sealed roads. Sometimes you have to stop to take it all in. Best done in summer though.

Thats it from me.

great pics guys!!  I had already said that i would go on a ride down the Tas peninsula, sorry no pics but it was a good ride, no going fast though traffic and  [leo] but it was still nice, we also had a p plate person and in tasmania a p plate means that you are restricted to 80ks do not know who had that great idea [bang].

Didn't see any  [leo] on the ride yesterday. And we were doing a bit more than 80.

Did see some greenies at the Florentine camp on the side of the road though.

enjoy the few dave!

Ok here is my plan, I will be at red square cafe cambridge at 9:30 leave 10:00  stop at orford, then on to bark mill bakery depending on how/if any company, should be there around 12:00,  this is hard to work out not knowing how many people may be with me ok leave bark mill around 1:00. Play time through lake leake.  if on my own it will be just to the old lake leake shop for a turn around then back the east coast.  Hope to see someone there in the morning.  Bugger that some have to work, oh well we get to use some of our holiday days for these three.

Nic

I'm out too, sorry Nic. As I was out all day yesterday, I have a few things to do around the house before I can safely get another leave pass. ;D

We will have to do a ride up to meet Bazz but thats looking like early Jan. I'll have to read that thread again to work out who is available when.

Hi guys.

I'll be in Hobart in March and will have a free day to ride wherever I like.  Is Strathgordon an easy day ride from Hobart?
How far?  How long (at below warp speed)?

Cheers,
Rob.

It's not a massive ride Rob, but it's not really easy either.

We left town at 1000. Stopped for lunch at Maydena at about 1130 (I think). Hung there for a while, then went straight through to the dam. I reckon we were at the dam for about half an hour, maybe more, before heading home.
We made a couple of little stops on the way home and I'd say we were back in town by about 1700.

One way, it's 170km. But like all Tassie back roads, it's twisty, narrow and quite bumpy in parts. Some sections are quite hard work (if traveling at warp speed).

It's a great day trip. Well worth it. I'll be going back out there for sure ;D

Sounds like a fine day trip!  Might have to give it some serious consideration.

Thanks.

Great photo's, bring back some good memories. Going to have to get there again soon.
Remember looking over that dam wall and thinking f#%k !!  [thumbsup]
Really do wish us West Aussies were blessed with the roads you have  [moto].

Cheers, Dave.

What! I feel like I have been sold a dud. I thought Tassie was meant to have all the best roads ... smooth ribbons of bitumen, perfect for riding.

First thermals in the height of summer and now this!

Don't worry Betty, our highways are all twisty, with good or very good surfaces (just stay off the Midlands  [puke] )

Our backroads such as this one don't really see much traffic. Just tourists heading out to the dam and the occasional Kombi Van taking supplies to the hippies environmentalists at Florentine Valley  :D

This is what we consider a highway Targa Tasmania 2008 The Sidling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAPXvAnOgDA#normal)
...here's some more of the same road Targa Tas 09 Weldborough Pass (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9Bgr4N7hPI#normal)

This is just a couple of parts of the A3 between Launceston and St. Helens.
I think it is, without a doubt, THE BEST road in Tassie  [moto]
