Does it have to be before you guys forego agressive sport riding due to the tires being cold? I know some people who are going out for a 200+ mile ride tomorrow in 40 to 50 F temps. If it's just going to be riding around, I won't bother, but if I can safely push it a little, I might get the 996 out  [evil]

40* to 50* is about as cold as I will ride.  Since it's a longer trip your tires should get up to a acceptable temp to push the bike a little.

In my experience, a noticeable difference between 40 and 50.
The tires will reach an acceptable temperature - more so if you drop the pressure 3, 4 or 5 psi.
If I had to rate traction, I'd say we have about two thirds left before we hit "wet" traction.
Try a twist of the throttle going out of a narrow corner to see where it's at?

it depends on the road conditions and how stupid i feel that day, but i will push it no matter what the temp is provided i have given my tires time to warm up.

Anything below 45F and I'm not friggin riding.  North Florida was 21F this morning with a high of 45F...not riding. 

You also like to pull powerslides in ice and snow  [cheeky]
OTOH, one of my basic goals with any ride is to attempt to remain upright.
I ended up skipping the long ride, but took the 996 out yesterday in 48F temps to run the engine, and did about 50 miles. The bike had only been ridden once in the last 2 months, and I don't winterize as we sometimes end up wearing shorts on Christmas Day.
I ended up taking it pretty easy as I had some mild rear tire traction issues pretty early on.

it's only a p[owerslide if you are in a car. and really, what's the problem with that?
